MICA Cross-Cultural Program Fund Application

About

MICA's Cross-Cultural Program Fund is a resource for students interested in planning and/or participating in cross-cultural learning experiences. The Cross-Cultural Program Fund encourages a creative and collaborative spirit among students and student groups. In addition to financial support, MICA staff members are willing to work with those requesting funds to develop ideas and assist in forming partnerships with other students or student groups.

Priority will be given to requests that demonstrate promise in the following categories:

  • Cross-Cultural Focus Partnerships between students or student groups that focus on different issues (e.g. ‘Students for Justice in Palestine’ and ‘Bisexual at Maryland’ collaborate for an event or series of programs focused on religion, nationality, and sexuality)
  • A focus on learning in at least one of the following areas:
  • Students learn about their own identity, culture, and heritage
  • Students learn through experiences interacting across differences (e.g. interacting with people of differing cultures, ideas, perspectives, etc.)
  • Students learn about different cultures and heritages
  • Viability
  • Thoughtful planning and justification for resources
  • Willingness to partner with MICA staff
  • Scope, aka the impact of the program on UMD community

Funding Request Process

Requests for funding will be evaluated on a rolling basis.

To be eligible for funding requests should be submitted a minimum of 3 weeks prior to the event.

You can expect to hear back within 1-2 weeks after submission.

Funding is contingent on need, program quality, and the amount of remaining funds available.

Approved requests can expect to receive support in the range of $50 - $300 (exceptions do rarely occur).

Funding Disbursement

*You are strongly encouraged to have a KFS account available to deposit funds into. MICA will not deposit funds to bank accounts nor will we write checks. (What's a KFS account? See the SORC Finance Manual for information about KFS accounts for student groups and how to open one)

**If you do not have a KFS account that funds can be deposited into you will need to submit in your application a detailed budget that includes: links to the exact item(s) you want purchased, names(s) of vendors that the items can be purchased from, the quantity (and colors if applicable) of each item and shipping time and cost (if applicable).

***If you do not have a KFS account and are ordering food from campus vendors you will need to complete the food order(s) and direct them to MICA for payment.
