AIHA Defining the Science Advisory Group

This form has been designed for AIHA Volunteer Groups (VGs) or individuals to submit research ideas. Ideas may be considered which advance the OEHS practice and enable practitioners to conduct their work armed with the latest methods and techniques that are based on sound science-based research. Alternately, ideas may be considered which help advance our level of understanding of the profession vis-à-vis programs such as LEED / green building codes, product stewardship, and general management / leadership – areas for which practitioners are increasingly being held responsible. The AIHA Defining the Science Advisory Group (DTS-AG) will review and assess all ideas using a scoring matrix. In your description, if possible please address the potential applicability, impact on practice and on worker's health, the scope of workers impacted, and the likelihood of success. To learn more about the process, visit the DTS-AG web page https://www.aiha.org/get-involved/volunteer-groups/defining-the-science-advisory-group All submitted ideas will be considered by the AIHA Board as to whether further action should be considered. The DTS-AG will make every effort to liaise with the appropriate VGs whose interests align with specific ideas and work with staff and other stakeholders in identifying potential research partners to conduct the actual work. Please allow up to three (3) months from the date of your submittal for a status report on next steps.

* OEHS Practice: Ideas which advance the OEHS practice and enable practitioners to conduct their work armed with the latest methods and techniques that are based on sound science-based research. This category encompasses more traditional "pure" research topics (e.g., Qualitative Judgment Accuracy, Defining Appropriate Bayesian Priors). * OEHS Profession: Ideas which help advance our level of understanding of the profession from a more holistic perspective (e.g., understanding our role in such areas as building certification programs (LEED, Well Building certification), product stewardship, and general management / leadership -- all areas for which practitioners are increasingly being held responsible. This research will be science-based, but not necessarily based on traditional IH topics.
