AAPPL Raters work as independent contractors for ACTFL’s testing office, Language Testing International (LTI). LTI requests that all independent contractors have an Employer Identification Number (EIN). Obtaining an EIN is a quick and easy process that does not require you to register as an LLC. For more information and to sign up to obtain your EIN, please access the IRS.gov website (https://www.irs.gov).

Technology Requirement

The AAPPL is both delivered and rated online, so it is important that raters have access to commonly available technology such as broadband Internet, a recent version of one of the commonly used Internet browsers, a computer with functioning audio speakers, a high-quality set of headphones or earphones, etc. Additionally, Internet-based applications (such as learning management systems and web conferencing tools) will be used in training and certification activities, and quality assurance exercises.

Are you comfortable using Internet-based applications such as learning management systems, web conferencing tools, etc.?*

Rating Availability

Because the AAPPL is taken primarily by students in grades 3-12, there is a high volume of assessments to rate at two points in the academic year: mid-March through early June, and November through early December. It is important that raters commit to being available during these times to complete their rating assignments and to participate in norming and other readiness activities in the month preceding each busy period, and throughout the year to support various activities relating to the AAPPL testing program.

Do you believe your availability will be sufficient for you to be an AAPPL rater?*
