School Tree Planting Application
Thank you for your interest in planting trees at a Portland school! Please read through the following information and fill out the application so we may better understand your plans for the project. Plantings will be held in the winter (January - March). Trees can be planted by students, contractors or both. Urban Forestry manages the contractors for planting.
---- MUTUAL EXPECTATIONS FOR A SCHOOL TREE PLANTING ---
THE APPLICANT WILL:
- Receive permission from the school principal and district.
- Gather all interested parties for a site review with Urban Forestry staff. This may include, school administrators, grounds staff, and staff who regularly use the planting space.
- Work with Urban Forestry to find a minimum of 15 planting spaces.
- Connect Urban Forestry with the teacher and students who will participate in the planting
PP&R URBAN FORESTRY WILL:
- Work with the school to create a planting plan and choose site appropriate tree species.
- Purchase and deliver all trees
- Provide three years of establishment care. This includes watering, weeding, mulching, staking, and pruning.
- Supply tools and mulch
- Bring staff and trained volunteers to plant with students.
- Provide contractors to plant any trees not planted by students.
- Present a classroom component on trees
