Temple Fire Academy Application

Welcome

Welcome to the Temple Fire and Rescue Fire Training Academy. Congratulations on taking the first step toward a rewarding career. This document is intended to give you an outline of the process for obtaining your Structural Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician certifications through Temple Fire and Rescue Training Academy and Temple College. For admission to the program, you will need to complete the forms and the application on this website. This program is open to the public and you are not applying for a job with Temple Fire and Rescue. At the end of this program, you will be able to become a certified firefighter in the State of Texas. Texas Commission on Fire Protection requires a background check prior to obtaining a state certification. That will be obtained after the state certification exam. More on the certification process will be gone over in class. If you are interested in becoming a firefighter with Temple Fire and Rescue, please go to our website and follow the links for Becoming a Firefighter: https://www.templetx.gov/131/Fire-Rescue-Employment-Information-Fire-Academy.

The fire academy is approximately 4 months long. The cost is $3500 payable to Temple Fire and Rescue. There is a $500 nonrefundable deposit to reserve a seat in the class. Payable only after the application is submitted. In addition to tuition the student will need to purchase specific uniform shirts, pants and steel toe/or equivalent black boots. The anticipated cost is approximately $60/ set of shirt and pants. The course uses online activities, reading material and tests. A laptop computer or tablet would be recommended. The Academy does have a limited number of tablets it can loan to students if they are unable to obtain a computer or tablet. The academy runs 8-5 M-F. There is one night burn at the end of class during live fire week. The academy consists of classroom, fire ground drills and an exercise program. The student is required to attend and participate in all aspects of the academy. They are required to follow the rules of the Academy which will be passed out on the first day of class. Accepted applicants shall receive an email approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the start of class with more details on the program. The Process To apply for the Academy you will need to have our medical clearance letter signed which is downloadable from the Training Academy webpage. A completed application for the fire academy will have the required areas on the application completed. Prior to attending the academy, a Medical Clearance letter will need to be completed and signed by a physician. On the application the last click box is submission complete. Click no if you want a copy of application or it is not complete. After the application is submitted, you will need to place a $500 deposit to hold your seat in class. A payment plan can be worked out for the remainder of the tuition if needed. The next payment will not be due until Certification School starts.

Please contact Dawn Ditto at 254-298-5970 to make your payment. If you are using GI Benefits, please have that information turned in or uploaded when you apply.
