2025 Sustainability Champions Award

The Sustainability Champion Award recognizes facilities who demonstrate leadership in health care sustainability, paving the way for environmental stewardship, social equity and fiduciary responsibility in their health care organizations to support healthy, equitable and resilient environments and communities maintained over time.

About the Award

The Sustainability Champion recognizes facilities who demonstrate leadership in health care sustainability. Multiple facilities are eligible to win this distinguished award on an annual basis. Applications will be available on the Energy to Care website no later than February 21, 2025.


Criteria to win this award include:

  • Track energy, water and greenhouse gas emissions in the Energy to Care Dashboard. To learn more and begin tracking, click here.
  • Facilities are required to provide Professional Engineer (PE) verification
  • Facility must have an ENERGY STAR score 75 or above
  • Facility must be an ENERGY STAR Certified Hospital (must have been certified in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 or 2024).
  • Facility or system must have a published Sustainability Statement.
  • Facility or system must have a designated Sustainability Champion on staff or sustainability lead on staff.
  • Facility must have a designated Green Team


The winning facilities will be recognized at the 2025 ASHE Health Care Facilities Innovation Conference, July 27-30, 2025 in Columbus, OH.


Submitting this form to ASHE verifies that 1) your facility would like to be considered for the Energy to Care Sustainability Champion Award and 2) your energy, water and GHG data is up to date and accurate in the Energy to Care Dashboard.


Complete this application in its entirety. Incomplete applications will not be considered. APPLICATIONS ARE DUE APRIL 1, 2025.


Winning facilities will be notified by May 1st, 2025.

The Sustainability Champion Award requires PE verification. The name and contact information from ENERGY STAR Certification qualifies as PE verification of data.


All applications will be checked and verified through the review process including verification of dashboard information and accessing links and documentation.
