Nomination Form - Graduate Student Leadership Award

Department of English DESCRIPTION The Graduate Student Leadership Award recognizes graduate students who have (1) taken on leadership roles in the program, department, college, university, and/or profession; (2) taken an active role in encouraging others to take on leadership roles; and (3) advised and mentored other students as they have entered leadership roles. ELLIGIBILITY Graduate students in their final semester of an English department MA, MFA, or PhD program are eligible for the award. Summer graduates should be nominated in the Spring semester prior to graduation. Students nominated for but not awarded the Graduate Student Leadership award will be automatically considered for the Outstanding Service award. NOMINATION Students are nominated by their respective area within the department (Applied Linguistics, Creative Writing, Literature, and Rhetoric) based on a majority agreement of the area faculty. The nomination should be prepared by the area faculty in consultation with the student. Nomination materials include (a) a nomination letter that includes a description of the nominee’s leadership roles, and explains how the nominee has actively engaged in encouraging and mentoring leadership in other students; and a statement certifying that the nomination is approved by the area faculty; (b) a leadership statement provided by the student and appended to the end of the nomination letter; the statement should discuss their philosophy of leadership and mentoring, and lists all leadership roles. NOMINATION DUE DATES Nomination due dates are announced at the beginning of the Fall semester, for both Fall and Spring/Summer nominations.
