Global Encryption Day is an opportunity to tell governments around the world that protecting and strengthening encryption is crucial to making the Internet safer for their citizens. The Campaign will educate people from all walks of life about the value of encryption, while encouraging users to ‘Make the Switch’ to end-to-end encrypted services.
It will also send a message to governments to abandon plans that will weaken encryption, and the Internet as a whole, by granting law enforcement agencies special powers to access your private data on encrypted platforms. Making this initiative a success will require Global Encryption Coalition members and allies stepping up by hosting activities and events around Global Encryption Day and the Make the Switch Campaign.
The Internet Society is pleased to offer financial grants of up to $1,000 United States dollars to Global Encryption Coalition Members’ activities and events that support the Make the Switch Campaign and Global Encryption Day.
How will applicants be selected?
Organizations and companies that are members of the Global Encryption Coalition can apply for the Make the Switch Campaign and Global Encryption Day Activity Grant. To ensure that more members have an opportunity to utilize the funds, only one grant is available to any one Global Encryption Coalition member, and only one grant per event/activity – even if multiple members are participating. Applicants must meet the following “Eligibility Criteria” to be considered for a grant:
• The activity/event must be held as part of the Global Encryption Coalition’s Make the Switch Campaign or as part of Global Encryption Day.
• Applicants must have an official bank account in their name (based on their legal registration) in order to be eligible for a grant.
• Grantees will be required to supply a one-page report to the Internet Society, outlining a summary of the event, attendance, and relevant quotes.
• Grantees will also be required to consent to the event being posted on the Global Encryption Coalition Master Calendar unless it is a closed event.
