Letter of Intent for new programs

This form solicits from schools information concerning academic programs that they anticipate developing. This information will aid the Academic Program Review Group's development of guidance and counsel to aid programs' development. Concerning graduate programs, this information will also help populate the MHEC mandated Letter of Intent that the university is required to submit every six months outlining programs it anticipates launching in the two years following submission.

Please select the school proposing the program.

Please include the name as it will appear on a graduate's diploma. Please avoid the use of marketing shorthands or cohort descriptors.

Please identify the Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) code you would like assigned to the program. This is an important arbiter of duplication by MHEC. This taxonomical code will be used to identify duplicative programs. Please consult the US Dept. of Education CIP code website to identify an appropriate code.

Please select one full CIP code. Please avoid multiple codes or broad taxonomical area.

Identify the program award level.

Please indicate whether you plan to offer the program online. An online program is one in which all courses to complete the program are available online and a student could complete all courses at a distance.

Please include a brief program description to identify the rationale for offering the program, including what engenders a demand for this program and how the program will address the demand.

Provide at least three draft learning outcomes that address what graduates will know and be able to do upon program completion. These can be speculative and can be altered, added to, or removed at a later date.

Indicate in which fields or professions graduates could pursue employment, or what occupations for which the program might explicitly prepare graduates.

Provide a brief and general overview of the factors motivating the program's development, included the need or demand it is addressing.

Where other programs in the state, at the same award level, share the same CIP code, please select 'yes'.

Will students earn professional licensure or certification from completing this program?

Does the program require national/programmatic accreditation?

Briefly details admissions requirements and any pre-requisite courses needed for admission.

Please check, where applicable, where resources exist to deliver the program. Do not concern yourself with whether checking a box provides a definitive and comprehensive answer. This merely indicates the broad resourcing areas in which the institution will deploy or use resources to deliver the program.

Please provide a broad overview of what, if any, additional resources are required to deliver the program. This can include faculty, facilities, or technology. If none are required, simply declare 'none'.

Please reference the institutional mission and indicate how this proposed program is consistent with the mission.

Please select this box to indicate/confirm that the dean's office supports this proposal's consideration and inclusion within the institutional letter of intent.
