Freeman Internship Fellowship Application

Thank you for applying for the Freeman Internship Fellowship.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for a Freeman Internship Fellowship, candidates must:
a. be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident;
b. be enrolled at the UO as a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student;
c. be in good academic standing; minimal GPA 2.75
d. have applied to and/or been accepted into an internship in East or Southeast Asia;
e. demonstrate financial need;
f. have a strong interest in East and/or Southeast Asia*.
Award and Requirements:
Fellowships of up to $6,500 are available. Award amounts will depend on the length of the internship, location, budget, and other internship support.
Internships must be at least 8 weeks in length to be considered for a Freeman Fellowship. Following their return to UO, all awardees will be required to share their experiences and lessons learned with other students through presentations, mentoring, and/or publications.
*For this program, the eligible countries include Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.
Deadlines
To be considered for a Freeman Internship Fellowship, candidates must submit a completed online application by one of the following deadlines:
Spring and Summer programs: February 22
Summer programs: April 22
Fall programs: July 22
Winter and Spring programs: November 22
*If the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, please turn in your application materials by 12 pm on the following work day.
If you are a GlobalWorks Internships applicant, you only need to fill out part of this application form and have a complete GlobalWorks application by the above deadline. Your GlobalWorks application will be used for Freeman consideration. Please follow the directions in this application form.
Application Materials:
All application materials should be submitted through this online form.
Please proof read all of your application materials before submission.
1. A completed Freeman Internship Fellowship Application Form (this form).
2. A statement of purpose (no longer than 2 pages, double-spaced) that includes detailed information about your internship, how this work experience complements your career goals, and how it fits into your course of study at the UO. Please upload.
3. A current resume. Please upload.
4. Confirmation of acceptance to your proposed internship program. If you haven’t been accepted yet, please submit a brochure or internship site description. Please upload.
5. Your un-official UO transcripts, which can be downloaded on your DuckWeb.
6. One reference from a UO faculty/staff member or a current or former work supervisor who can comment on the significance of this internship to your course of study and professional development.
7. A Detailed Budget Form of your anticipated expenses and any sources of funding you have already secured.
8. Demonstration of financial need. Please include a copy of your Financial Aid Award Letter. If you do not have a financial aid package, you may instead include a separate paragraph detailing your specific budgetary and financial need. Please provide evidence of need (e.g. private loans) if you can. Just send them to Kylie Post (kpost@uoregon.edu).
