Survey on Visa Denials

NAFSA regularly engages with Department of State (DOS) Consular Affairs about student and scholar visa issues. In response to recent reports about an increase in student and exchange visitor visa refusals/denials from Africa and the Global South, NAFSA, along with other higher education partners, including the Presidents' Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration and Shorelight, are meeting and communicating with agency leadership and need your input.

As we begin the new academic year, we wish to learn about visa refusals/denials from the Global South and anywhere else in the world. This information will assist us in identifying patterns and trends that will be shared with DOS Consular Affairs during our meetings on visa issues. NAFSA, along with other higher education partners, will share cases with DOS and request DOS to investigate these as we discuss trends and issues.

Please use this form to provide details about visa refusals/denials experienced by your prospective and continuing students and exchange visitors. If you don’t have the information to complete a field on the survey, please leave it blank.

As you know DOS will not discuss specific visa applications with anyone other than the applicant and attorney, so we will not be able to obtain details about the cases you report.

Also please continue to report all other visa issues via NAFSA's IssueNet Report an Issue.
