The California Center for School Climate (CCSC), a California Department of Education initiative operated by WestEd, provides free support and trainings on school climate and data use to local education agencies in California.
In Fall 2023 the CCSC will be offering the following supports by application. The dates for these programs will be determined soon. Join a CCSC interest list and get notified when the dates are finalized and applications are available.
School Climate Data Use Community of Practice (click for more details)
CCSC will work with teams from select LEAs through a community of practice to improve their school climate data use practices with capacity building, opportunities to connect with other districts, and individual coaching.
School Climate Collaborative (click for more details)
The CCSC will work with select LEAs to improve school climate and build local capacity through our year long intensive and collaborative partnership. Partner LEAs will identify a school climate leadership team and implement a set of events co-led with CCSC staff throughout the year.
Safe and Supportive Learning Environments: Essentials (click for more details)
The SSLE Essentials virtual professional learning series leads participants to integrate a broad cluster of research-based content and culturally responsive practices that inherently work together to foster safe and supportive learning environments. Participants work closely with SSLE facilitators and fellow participants as they develop the mindsets, knowledge, and capacity needed to infuse these practices into the everyday instruction and experiences of their schools, districts, and agencies.
Safe and Supportive Learning Environments: Deep Dives (click for more details)
CCSC offers virtual professional learning courses for K–12 educators and education leaders that are Deep Dives into aspects of Safe and Supportive Learning Environments (SSLE). Each Deep Dive series builds on many topics that may be familiar, such as trauma-informed, restorative, and culturally responsive practices; social and emotional learning (SEL); school climate; and related whole-person topics, with attention to equity throughout.
School Climate Data Use Peer Network for County Offices of Education
CCSC will work with select COEs to build local capacity of school climate data use practices through a community of practice. Participating COEs will receive support to improve their school climate data use practices with capacity building, opportunities to connect with other counties, and individualized coaching.
