Salt Lake City Historical Markers Pilot Program Request Form

The Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office of Access & Belonging, in partnership with the City Council and Salt Lake City Human Rights Commission, is inviting Salt Lake City-based organizations, such as businesses, nonprofits, and special interest groups, to sponsor and submit requests for new historical markers within city boundaries. Organizations can sponsor requests for historical markers to:

  • Preserve local history,
  • Engage the community,
  • Incorporate diverse perspectives,
  • Educate residents and visitors,
  • Enhance civic pride and tourism, or
  • Leverage community resources for funding or volunteer efforts.

As a city, we believe this approach fosters inclusivity, a comprehensive representation of history, and a sense of ownership amongst local community.

Submissions will be assessed by the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office of Access & Belonging and Salt Lake City Human Rights Commission. Following the assessment, two finalists will be awarded the plaques.

NOTE: A printable version of this form is available upon request by emailing BelongingSLC@slc.gov.
