Please read

As part of changing Nationality the new federation is required to forward to the FIE a letter from the former federation (in this case British Fencing) accepting the transfer and requesting the cancellation or reduction of the 3 year period "only for just reasons".

This application form should be completed by athletes wishing BF to supply a letter. BF will supply a letter which the athlete should forward to their new Federation who in turn forward to the FIE. BF is not responsible for liaising with the FIE where athletes wish to change away from GBR.

Please provide your email address that you wish us to send the letter to. This should match your contact email address on Sport80.

Please provide a contact number we can use if we need to contact you about this application.

This must match your BF Membership record, your passport and your most recent FIE licence.

Note - Once an athlete has made one nationality change there are no current circumstances under which they are permitted to change again.

Please provide the contact details (name and email address) of the person you are liaising with at the new Federation.

Athletes that have not competed for GBR in the last three years do need a waiver. BF will still need to issue a letter agreeing to the change.

This includes European Games.

Typically (except in limited cases eg marriage) there is a 3 year waiting period where athletes must not fence in any FIE competition.

Under the FIE rules it is possible for this period to be reduced provided all parties – original federation, new federation, athlete (or guardian in the case of U18s) agree.

BF will consider all requests to waive or reduce the three year period from athletes wishing to change nationalities. This consideration process can take up to 12 weeks depending on the circumstances.

In the event that BF agree to reduce the waiver period, athletes will have restrictions with regards to participation in FIE events for any remaining waiver period.

I understand that once I have submitted the request to change nationality that I will no longer be permitted to benefit from public funded BF programmes and services that are intended for GBR athletes.

Any formal participation in these programmes will cease on application and the athlete will no longer be eligible for related subsidies. Any other benefits (eg ranking points at closed Nationals) will also cease.

I will not longer be permitted to access grants and any monies received and unspent as at date of application must be returned.

Please upload a copy of the athlete’s valid identity document (passport, nationality certificate) indicating their new new nationality. Without this BF will not issue a letter.
