About SPARK GLOBAL


SPARK, founded by Professor Daria Mochly-Rosen at Stanford University's School of Medicine in 2006, is a pioneering translational research program. Our mission is to empower researchers to transform groundbreaking discoveries into tangible solutions that benefit society.


Program Charter


At the heart of SPARK GLOBAL's success is our program charter, which guides us in achieving our goals:


  • Education & Mentorship: We provide world-class education and mentorship to researchers, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed for translational success.
  • From Bench to Bedside: SPARK GLOBAL specializes in bridging the gap between laboratory discoveries (the bench) and real-world applications (the bedside).
  • Technical Expertise: We offer access to specialized technical expertise in drug and diagnostic development, ensuring that innovations reach their full potential.
  • Funding Support: Our extensive network connects researchers with sources of funding, enabling them to turn their ideas into reality.

Program Requirements


  • A Local Program can only be established at a not-for-profit institution.
  • Clear leadership must be established and maintained with at least two Local Directors appointed to manage the Local Program.
  • At least one of the Local Directors must be either a basic scientist or a clinical scientist.
  • A Local Director will be expected to take or have taken the SPARK Global or SPARK Stanford training.
  • A sustainable financing mechanism will be implemented that will support the Local Program’s operations and projects. The SPARK GLOBAL Office will provide guidance on the recommended financing mechanism. In addition, funds for project funding need to be raised from governments and/or third-party donors.
  • A mix of commercial, high-risk, and non-commercial projects in the SPARK portfolio.
  • Active contribution to the SPARK GLOBAL Community at the country and GLOBAL level.
  • Active collaboration with Member’s local Technology Transfer Office or other commercialization entities.
  • Other program requirements to be discussed with the SPARK GLOBAL Office
