Elementary Social Studies Curriculum Fellowship
New social studies standards are being implemented in the 2024-25 school year. The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is seeking local education agency (LEA) curriculum leads or teacher leaders who will support educators and school staff implementing revised standards. OSSE will provide professional development to support LEA curriculum leads or teacher leaders in building social studies curriculum and professional development using OSSEs curricular materials. OSSE will offer stipends for up to 20 individuals who complete all requirements of the fellowship. OSSE will continue with year-long support for LEA curriculum leads focused on feedback, coaching and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Experience writing lesson plans and curriculum for their LEA
- Participating educators should support students and teachers in grades 2-5
- LEAs may nominate one or two individuals, either highly qualified teacher leaders or curriculum leaders.
Educator Commitments:
- Participate in a four-day curriculum writing workshop that focuses on developing social studies lessons that are aligned to the revised standards and support literacy instruction and the science of reading.
- Letter of recommendation from LEA leadership (I.e. principal, instructional superintendent)
- Develop lesson plans and units for two driving concepts using OSSE resources (up to 20 total lessons)
- Develop a scope and sequence for your individual LEA
- Develop a social studies specific PD plan for individual LEA (note: this PD can be co-delivered with OSSE)
