This group is founded not only with a common purpose of Encouraging, Empowering and Enhancing (E³) leadership in the insurance industry. Connection that comes from common ground is what brings a rich element of empathy to the surface and personalizes the experience for everyone in a way they need it most. For that reason there are some things that all MyNetwork members need to keep in mind to setup everyone for network success.
1. Confidentiality | While tempted to share the juicy details of a network conversation or discussion, what happens inside MyNetwork stays inside MyNetwork. No Exceptions!
2. Experiential input has great value | “Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt” type input is what is most valuable, especially in the roundtable discussions. Members are looking for others to connect with who have or are experiencing the same thing they are and can be real translatable advice to the table. Comments that begin with “well I’ve heard that…” just really don’t bring value unless it’s truly something that someone else you know and can likely share a contact for is doing successfully and could help another member.
3. Commitment | “Life” and especially ex-dates, needy clients and hail storms can get in the way, but remember you’re expecting others to be there for you, so make sure you’re there for them. MyNetwork meetings and web events happen at the same time every month of the “year”, so put them on your calendar ASAP, and protect those dates as best as you can. If you’re not going to be at, or on a meeting, please let your facilitator know as soon as possible.
4. Multi-tasking on web events forbidden | Truthfully, multi-tasking is a lie belched from the pits of ___ll! [rhymes with “smell” and research proves it.] Shut your door, put out your “Do Not Disturb” sign, shut down the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th monitors (seriously) and give yourself the best chance to focus on the meeting and give good input. These calls aren’t muted, so we’ll hear you pecking away at your keyboard in the background, so don’t embarrass yourself by getting called out by another MyNetwork member
5. No question is ever dumb | It may be stupid, but it sure won’t be dumb! No really – we’re here to let down our hair, learn and help others learn, grow and climb that ladder. No single person has all the answers, or they wouldn’t be in the network. This is a safe place to explore, share the business challenges you face, and get answers, resources and especially encouragement.
6. Try to avoid bunny trails | Often it’s easy to get off topic and chase a bunny down the trail, but not everyone always wants to go there. It’s up to the facilitator whether it’s a bunny worth chasing or whether the topic goes in a parking lot for further consideration, offline or another session.
7. Season reschedule | There are times that “things just happen”. If you find that you need to reschedule your season please contact your network facilitator to transfer your pro-rata fees to the next season, less the 2 months for written notice of transfer. Please know that this isn’t an exhaustive list and each network may suggest others as they go. It’s just an elementary attempt to frame the experience to be successful and considerate of all. Thank you for being mindful of these basic ground rules and thoughtful of each member.
