You have 10 business days from when you receive your final stage email notification to submit your Show Cause submission.


Please make sure that you have read your Invitation to Show Cause email carefully, as it contains important information and links.


This Show Cause submission is your opportunity to explain your situation to the Program Assessment Board, how your circumstances have effected your studies and what steps you will take for improvement if you are allowed to continue in your current program.

Section D - Explain why your academic performance has been unsatisfactory

Final stage show cause


For the teaching periods in which you have been identified as at risk, especially the most recent period, you need to explain:



  • What went wrong and why (including both academic and personal circumstances that have impaired your performance)


  • How much time each week you have spent in class and studying, and have how much time you have spent on other commitments such as employment


  • What you have done to resolve these issues, Including any help you have sought


  • What you have done to carry out your Academic Performance Improvement Plan.



Please provide as much detail as possible in the sections below.

Please outline any academic issues and how these have impacted your study.

Please outline any personal reasons and how these impacted your study. (For example health, financial, family, living arrangements, work)

List the steps you will take/have taken to improve your academic performance (Please include any assistance you have sought e.g. SLC, SLAMS, GP etc.)

Section E - Evidence provided with submission


To support your show cause submission you should provide independent supporting documentation to support any of the circumstances that you have mentioned.


Examples of supporting evidence, but not limited to:

  • a letter or report from a health practitioner or counsellor
  • a death certificate or a funeral notice
  • police report
  • evidence of the use of support services recommended in your Academic Performance Improvement Plan.


If you provide evidence that is in a language other than English, you must include an English translation by a NAATI-accredited translator.

Section F - Student declaration


  • I declare the information provided by me is true and correct in every detail and I acknowledge that RMIT University reserves the right to confirm the Information provided and may vary or reverse any decision on the basis of incorrect or incomplete Information


  • I give consent for the University to contact my treating practitioner and/or other person/organisation to provide information limited to the impact of the medical/health condition in my show cause application


  • I understand that I may be asked to provide a more specific consent to disclosure of Information should this be required by the Program Assessment Board


  • I understand that that is my responsibility to provide the evidence to support my submission. Provision of false or misleading information is grounds for disciplinary action.

What happens next?

Once your submission is received, it will be reviewed, and may be referred to the Program Assessment Board for further assessment.




You will receive the outcome of your submission to your student email account once Program Assessment Board has looked into your submission.
