Disability Awareness Day at

Arapahoe County Fair 2025

This wonderful event pairs volunteers with children and their partners (adults with disabilities welcome too - see note below) participants in an adaptive rodeo event. Together the kids, cowboys, and cowgirls will work through a series of modified rodeo events.

There will be:

  • “bull riding” and “bareback bronc riding” on hand-rocked animals
  • “steer roping” with dummy steers
  • “steer wrestling” and “barrel racing” on giant stick horses
  • If you'd like to learn more click here for a news article on the Exceptional Rodeo: https://source.colostate.edu/exceptional-rodeo/

Each child participant will receive their own cowboy hat and t-shirt. Children and their ProRodeo partners will have their pictures taken and exchange autographs while the announcer provides live-action commentary from the arena floor. As the children and their ProRodeo partners finish up, each pair will be introduced, and each participant will receive their own trophy.

* Adults/older children with intellectual and developmental disabilities are welcome to participate, but please note that the Exceptional Rodeo is traditionally focused more on elementary-aged youth, because of the size and weight requirements of our equipment. We will do our best to include individuals of all ages and sizes.
