Medical Affairs Innovation Olympics is a global, annual ideation competition with multiple stages of elimination, event categories contested both asynchronously and via live stream debates with real-time voting, prizes and special recognitions, as well as educational expert panel and keynote presentations by leading Olympians, Olympic champions and coaches, scientists, and life science industry experts, including expert judges who provide continuous feedback on competitors' submissions throughout the event.
The Innovation Olympic Trials precede the main event, which is set to take place October 1 - 16. Eligible competitors in life sciences from all over the globe will have the chance to represent their country as leading innovators and automatically qualify for the #MAIO2024 Innovation Olympics in October.
- Idea proposals aimed at advancing access, continuity, and quality of healthcare in pharma and biotech will be submitted by competitors beginning March 4 until the submission deadline of April 1 @ 5:00 pm ET.
- A competitor may submit a proposal on behalf of a team or their organization and designate a different presenter at various stages of the event.
- Every competitor may only submit 1 idea proposal.
- Olympic Trials will consist of two stages. Stage 1 will be asynchronous and take place over 2 weeks, April 1 - April 15. Stage 2 will be streamed live virtually and take place over 1.5 - 2 hours at three different times to determine winning competitors in accordance to their global regions. A winner in each of the 4 events will be determined live from North and South American regions on April 23, from the African, European, and Middle East regions on April 30, and from the Oceania and Asian regions on May 7.
- Expert judges will review and verify the eligibility of the proposals March 4 - April 1.
Stage 1
- During the period of April 1 - 15, judges will evaluate all submissions in 4 categories: 1) Operations and Technology; 2) Medical Insights; 3) Patient Centricity; and 4) Scientific Communication, and if necessary will comment or exchange feedback, questions, and answers via e-mail with competitors.
- On April 15, judges will vote on all submissions based on 5 criteria, each scored on a 1-10 scale for a maximum total of 50 points:
1) VALIDITY. How relevant is the idea or solution to the problem in ACCESS, CONTINUITY, or QUALITY of HEALTHCARE?
What is its value to own organization?
What is its value to other Innovation Olympics event attendees?
What is its value to Medical Affairs organizations in pharma and biotech?
2. PREDICTABILITY. How does the idea correlate to its intended outcome?
3. CAUSALITY. How does the idea directly influence its intended outcome?
4. NOVELTY. What is the extent of its apparent originality in its category?
5. APPLICABILITY. How likely and diverse is its potential application?
A maximum of top 3 competitors in every event category advance to each of the three stage 2 live stream Olympic Trials finals, separated by global regions:
- North America and South America
- Africa, Europe, and Middle East
- Oceania and Asia
Stage 2 Live Stream Finals
- North and South America - April 23
- Africa, Europe and Middle East - April 30
- Oceania and Asia - May 7
- Live Stream Finals will consist of 2 rounds. In round 1, every competitor, up to a maximum of 3 competitors in each event will have 5 minutes to present their ideas in their desired format. Industry expert judges will vote live to determine the competitors who will advance to the next round.
- In round 2, the competitors who have advanced will have 2 minutes each for a final presentation
- Final vote by the expert judges will identify the winners in each of the 4 event categories during all three live stream finals.
A total of 12 winners, 3 in each of the 4 event categories across the globe will automatically qualify for participation at the #MAIO2024 2024 Medical Affairs Innovation Olympics October 1-16, 2024, will represent their country and their idea proposal at this ideation competition.
Trials winners will be able to modify their initial submissions at the Trials based on the feedback from expert judges.
Those Olympic Trials competitors who do not advance or win the Trials in April/May across the globe will be able to pay to register to compete for the #MAIO2024 Innovation Olympics along with the general global life science audience beginning July 1 (3 months prior to the event). #MAIO2024 Idea Submissions will be screened for validity and registration fees will be reimbursed for ideas that do not qualify.
Importantly, they may modify as well as change their initial submissions at the Trials when they register for the main event, the Innovation Olympics.
