University Fencing - Coach Education Expression of Interest 2023

Use this to express an interest in the University Fencing Officer coach development courses. Links to the courses will be sent to the signup forms upon completion.

This year we will be trialling running two courses running in parallel.

Core Coach: Free, subsidised by British Fencing. For fencers and non-fencers that have less than or no experience in fencing.

Introduction to Coaching Fencing: Reduced from £160 to £10 for the online component and £25 for the face to face assessment. For competent fencers that have more than one year of fencing experience.

Both courses will be introduced to the Sabre: Lite module

BF Level 2 qualified coaches working in the university clubs will be offered these courses for free as part of their CPD.

ABOUT THIS COURSE • Training for the Voluntary Role as University Fencing Officer (UFO). • Provides UFOs with the knowledge, skills and attributes to effectively develop fencing or swordplay sessions as an introduction to fencing at the host university. • Develops ability to provide appealing opportunities for students; engaging and attracting them to fencing and or other fencing based participation programmes (Sabre:Lite).

Outcomes

Core Coach: Being able to deliver with confidence an inclusive, positive first experience of swordplay for participants that have never picked up a sword. Provided with a Core Coach booklet with a session guide to help deliver a set of designed sessions.

ITCF: Fencers can learn how to positively deliver first experiences for fencing in taster sessions and beginners’ courses. Qualified candidates will be able to competently deliver fencing and appear on the BF register of coaches.

All candidates that attend either course will be known as University Fencing Officers and become part of a wider community of coaches.
