Community Input:

State Statute requires data that is not to be used as evidence to be deleted no later than seven days from collection.

Should SPPD delete the data as soon as possible (when the flight ends and the card is placed in a computer for deletion) or after seven days so it can be viewed if requested by members of the community?

***SPPD could also review this data if a serious crime is reported in a specific area and timeframe that a drone was deployed in (For example: If a murder was reported a day after the flight in the exact area the drone was deployed in, but SPPD did not know about it at the time we flew the drone, we could go back and look for evidence or for a suspect of the murder).

There are two options when it comes to recording video by the drone: Should SPPD record from take off to landing or only when the subject of the drone search is located on the screen through the time they are taken into custody?

Recording the entire time means there will be longer periods of recording data to include the time it takes for the drone to be flown from the launch location to the intended area of the search.

Recording only when the intended target is located means less footage of neighborhoods and community areas.

BOTH instances are subject to the first question on length of time the video will be available for review (zero to seven days) if it is not evidence.
