Sanford Health Foundation Scholarships

Opens: September 20 - Closes: November 15


Through the generosity of many donors, Sanford Health is able to award a number of scholarships annually to employees and community members enrolled in post-secondary education. Qualifications and requirements vary depending on scholarship.


Application Submission Requirements:

  • If currently employed by Sanford Health or Good Samaritan
  • Must be in good standing, with no current disciplinary action pending at Sanford Health/Good Samaritan Society or their academic institution.
  • One scholarship reference from an instructor, current Supervisor or Academic Advisor
  • Proof of Enrollment (Letter of Acceptance)
  • Unofficial Transcript
  • GPA must be 3.0 or higher to be considered
  • Scholarship Essay

Sioux Falls & South Network

Sioux Falls Board of Directors Scholarship Fund

Purpose: Support students who have demonstrated initiative at Sanford Schools of Medical Technology or Radiologic Technology.

Eligibility: Part-time or full-time Sanford Health employees currently pursuing a degree in the health care field or non-employee students at the Sanford Schools of Medical Technology or Radiologic Technology.

Award: Four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded.

Donor: Sioux Falls Sanford Health Foundation Board of Directors


Donna Howlett Memorial Scholarship Fund

Purpose: Support employees who are currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an institution of higher education.

Eligibility: Recipients must have been employed at Sanford Health or Good Samaritan in the Sioux Falls/South Network region for one year as a full-time, part-time or PRN patient care technician, nurse aide or therapy aide.

Award: One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded.

Donors: Family and friends of Donna Howlett, through gifts in her memory


Junge/Moller Nursing Endowment Fund

Purpose: This scholarship supports employees who are students presently enrolled or planning to be enrolled in an accredited registered nursing program, either undergraduate or master’s level.

Eligibility: Sanford Health or Good Samaritan employee in the Sioux Falls/South Network region who are in a scheduled part-time or full-time position and attending a registered nursing program (either undergraduate or master’s level) are eligible.

Award: One $1,500 scholarship will be awarded.

Donors: Florence Junge and the Estate of Norma J. Moller


Kelly Kortan Nursing Scholarship Fund

Purpose: This scholarship supports employees enrolled in an accredited, undergraduate registered nursing program and are also raising children.

Eligibility: Applicants must be a Sanford Health or Good Samaritan employee in the Sioux Falls/South Network region enrolled and actively working towards their undergraduate nursing degree. Special preference is given to those rearing one or more children.

Award: One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded.

Donors: Family and friends of Kelly Kortan, through memorial gifts received


Ruth Lancaster Bozman Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: Provide funds for certified nursing assistants and licensed practical nurses to further pursue their education and earn a registered nurse degree.

Eligibility: A Sanford Health or Good Samaritan employee in the Sioux Falls/South Network region who is currently a certified nursing assistant or licensed practical nurse pursuing their education to earn a registered nurse degree.

Award: Two $2,200 scholarships will be awarded.

Donor: Mary “Kay” Bozman


Helen Jacobson Cafourek Scholarship

Purpose: To make funds available to those who need financial assistance for their nursing education. To honor the spirit of Helen, preference will be placed upon single parents, financial hardship, and those who convey her passion for nursing and family.

Eligibility: Students who are enrolled and actively working towards their undergraduate nursing degree.

Award: Two $5,000 scholarships to be awarded each year.

Donor: Garry and Dianne Jacobson, in tribute to Garry’s mother, Helen

Dr. Denny G. Ortmeier Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: This scholarship was established to provide health education and related activities associated with Sanford Hospital and its educational programs and employees. This fund is intended to promote continuing professional skill and knowledge development and other activities important in providing health services and medical care.

Eligibility: A Sanford Health or Good Samaritan employee in the Sioux Falls/South Network region pursuing a degree in health care.

Award: One $3,000 scholarship will be awarded.

Donor: Family in memory of Dr. Denny Ortmeier


Sioux Falls DeJong Scholarship

Purpose: Support Sanford employees seeking higher education in a healthcare related field.

Eligibility: A Sanford Health or Good Samaritan employee in the Sioux Falls/South Network region pursuing a degree in health care.

Award: Five $2,000 scholarships will be awarded

Alumni Association of Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing Scholarship

Purpose: Promote nursing as a profession and provide financial support to students pursuing nursing careers.

Requirements & Eligibility:

  • Scholarships are available to junior or senior nursing students enrolled in educational programs leading to a baccalaureate degree in nursing or to students in a master’s degree nursing program.
  • The nursing program, in which the applicant is enrolled, must be nationally accredited—such as the National League of Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Priority will be given to:

  • Applicants who do not hold an RN license
  • Alumni children/grandchildren pursuing a degree in nursing
  • Sanford Health employees enrolled in nursing.
  • Students who are members of the armed forces or who are a veteran

Award: The number of awards and scholarship amounts each year varies.

Fargo & North Network

Albert Ronice Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance for nursing students entering their fourth year of training for their bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Eligibility: A current Sanford Health employee pursuing a degree in nursing. Special preference will be given to those within their last year of school.

Award: Two $2,100 scholarship will be awarded.

Donor: Albert Ronice, through a gift from his estate


Mary Jo Langenwalter Scholarship

Purpose: Provide financial assistance for tuition to a current clinical laboratory science student.

Eligibility: A current clinical laboratory science student doing a program/clinical rotation at Sanford Health.

Award: Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded.

Donor: Friends and family in memory of Mary Jo Langenwalter

Bismarck

Jeff Johnson Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To provide financial assistance for radiography students during their training at Sanford Health Bismarck.

Eligibility: This scholarship is available to senior students enrolled in the Sanford Health Radiography program in Bismarck.

Award: One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior student annually.

Donor: Family and friends of Jeff Johnson


Ross Kunz Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To provide financial assistance for radiography students during their training at Sanford Health Bismarck.

Eligibility: This scholarship is available to junior and senior students enrolled in the Sanford Health Radiography program in Bismarck.

Award: Three $2,000 scholarships will be awarded annually

Donor: Family and friends of Ross Kunz


Bemidji

Mimi Diffley Memorial Employee Scholarship

Purpose: This scholarship supports current Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota employees in the Bemidji region seeking to further their health care education and advance their careers.

Eligibility: Must be employed by Sanford Health in the Northern Minnesota/Bemidji region in good standing with no pending disciplinary actions. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Award: Four $2,000 scholarships will be awarded.

Donors: Employees of Sanford Bemidji, through their continued donations to this scholarship


Good Samaritan

Good Samaritan National Hoeger Scholarship

Purpose: To support Good Samaritan employees who are currently enrolled in or have been accepted to an accredited institution of higher education, regardless of field of study.

Eligibility: Current Good Samaritan employees pursuing a degree at an accredited college, university, or vocational school.

Award: Three $2,000 scholarships will be awarded.


Good Samaritan National Miriam Fjelland Penn Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To support Good Samaritan employees who are pursuing or have been accepted into a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program at an accredited institution.

Eligibility: Current Good Samaritan employees enrolled in or accepted to an RN or LPN degree program.

Award: Four $2,000 scholarships will be awarded.

Donor: John C. Penn


Good Samaritan National Staff Scholarship

Purpose: To support Good Samaritan employees who work in non-center-based roles and contribute to the operations of Good Samaritan locations, and who are currently enrolled in or have been accepted to an accredited institution of higher education.

Eligibility: Good Samaritan employees who do not work directly at a care location or center but provide support services to Good Samaritan operations and are pursuing a degree.

Award: One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded.


Good Samaritan Colorado Regional Scholarship

Purpose: To support Good Samaritan employees in Colorado who are currently enrolled in or have been accepted to an accredited institution of higher education, regardless of field of study.

Eligibility: Current Good Samaritan employees at a Colorado location pursuing a degree at an accredited college, university, or vocational school.

Award: Ten $2,000 scholarship will be awarded.
