Place or Street Naming Request

Please use the request form to make a naming request and submit the required application materials.


Prior to submitting a naming request to the City of Tacoma, please review the City’s Policy on Place Names and Name Changes found here to ensure your application is complete and aligned with the City’s guidelines.


The questions to the right with red asterisks must be answered for your application for the naming proposal to be considered. For optional question please give as much information as is relevant.

You should speak to the following criteria and how this request meets them. This can also be seen under Section 4 of the Place Naming Policy in more detail:

  • Context, geographical location and natural or geological features
  • Historical significance
  • Civil service of the individual
  • Equity, inclusion, and reconciliation
  • Contributions

This would likely include signs and/or plaques with the new name or other installations.


Additionally for roadway and non-roadway rights of way naming, including honorary naming, but excluding Puyallup Tribal Council or designee initiated honorary naming within the 1873 survey area of the Puyallup Reservation.
