New Author Submission Form

Blushing responds to authors very quickly; for this reason, we do not accept simultaneous submissions - books submitted simultaneously to another publisher. If your work has been submitted elsewhere, please do not submit it via this form. Please note that we have recently upped our minimum word count on submissions to 40,000 words. We apologize for any inconvenience that this might cause, but the market has changed such that it is difficult for us to sell material shorter than 30K. We also prefer works which are shorter than 100,000 words.

BEFORE SUBMITTING

Please confirm that you have read our submission page and are aware that: We are unlikely to publish: Any story told from a male point of view. The main character must be female and the story told primarily from her point of view. Books containing angels or demons as main characters. Books set in ancient times (ancient Egypt, etc.) Any books that contain gods or goddesses or are based primarily on mythology. Transgender, M/M or F/F titles. Any historical title set after 1930 (This means we are not looking at Depression, World War II or more recent at this time.) Any book which uses first person present tense in the primary action. Short diary or journal entries or letters which use first person present are acceptable. Anthologies of short stories We do NOT publish: Any story that is in any way demeaning to an individual or group of people. Pedophilia. Sexual incest though big brother/father may spank sister/daughter, and we will consider a story in which step-siblings (not half-siblings) have relationships. NO aggravated rape for purposes of sexual excitement. Rape may be used as part of the plot action, especially supporting character development, but should always be portrayed negatively and should not be described explicitly. Stories that involve a heroine being forced to accept sexual advances in order to advance the storyline may be acceptable, even if they are described for the purposes of sexual excitement. The difference between overt rape and semi- non-consensual sexual activity is a difficult one to explain. What we don’t want are stories about rape for the sake of rape. NO bodily functions as sexual activity (e.g., “golden showers”). NO necrophilia. NO guns, knives or other weapons stuffed in various parts of the female anatomy. NO extreme brutality presented for purposes of sexual excitement (e.g., it can be mentioned that an evil character tortures people or that a character has been tortured in the past or fears it in the future, but this cannot be described in a graphic way.) We are not interested in bloody whippings, branding, needle play, asphyxiation, etc. NO bestiality. This rule refers to common animals indigenous to earth; this does not apply to shapeshifting protagonists and sentient “otherworldly” humanoid animals in sci-fi or fantasy.

(about 500-600 words) The synopsis must convey a book’s entire narrative arc. It shows what happens and who changes, and it has to reveal the ending. Don’t confuse the synopsis with sales blurb. Please write a one-page synopsis:

If you want your story to hook readers, you have to show your characters facing opposing forces. There are two major types of conflict – internal and external – and stories that really hook readers have both.

Please share an excerpt from your work that you feel adequately conveys the "power-exchange" or "erotic" level of your book. This is 300-600 words taken directly from the manuscript you are submitting. Cut and Paste them here:

This is not a synopsis or summary. This is a short, (2-3 paragraphs of 2-3 sentences each) that would be used a sales or "teaser" text. * This is what you would see on the back of a book or the listing on Amazon.

Please tell us the name of your main character, approximate age, and how far into the book this character is introduced. If your main character is NOT a female, tell us why your book is right for Blushing Books.

Taglines are short sentences on the cover or promotional images of books, meant to be enticing enough to get you to pick up the book. They usually give you a feel for the tone of the book, and sometimes hint at plot or conflict. Now, boiling down an entire book into one marketable sentence is tough. But it is important to keep it short and simple, but intriguing. A great place to find good examples is Twitter. Check out your favorite authors there. Here are some catchy examples: 1. Power is a dangerous game. 2. There’s no such thing as safe. 3. Can the best thing happen at the worst time? 4. What if you got a second chance at life? 5. The truth won’t let her go. Please share up to 3 taglines.

Please select ALL that apply. This helps us to list your books in the best categories.

We have found recently that highly romantic titles with maledom power exchange elements (spanking, domestic discipline, BDSM) are our best sellers, and Blushing has moved in the direction of romance/power-exchange publishing exclusively. Blushing Books got its start with “spanking” stories – can the cowboy tame the brat? Since 1999 we’ve moved into a much more varied genre, everything from what we call “dubious consent” to Omegaverse to reverse harem. We now publish everything from “domestic discipline,” where a couple voluntarily enters into a relationship where the female partner agrees to be corrected by the male partner “for her own good,” to master slave stories. We realize that it is a profound contradiction that women want to explore the rough “taboos” they cannot explore in real life through their reading. They want Alpha Navy Seals and mysterious assassins. They want bad-boy Mafia Dons. They want spanking and to be abducted by the pirate.
