Remarriage Petitions

This form is only for clergy use in The Diocese of Atlanta.

Remarriage Petitions should be received in the Bishop's Office at least 45 days from the proposed marriage date to ensure that the approval process is completed before the proposed wedding date.

A Remarriage Petition Application, found on the diocese's website under Clergy Resources/Clergy Forms, must be completed for each person that has been previously married with a copy of the divorce decree(s) or a copy of the death certificate, if the marriage was dissolved due to the death of a spouse.

For a second marriage, the bishop requires a waiting period of one year from the date of the final decree.

If you are submitting two remarriage petitions, only one submission is needed. Attach the petition(s) and all pertinent legal documents to this form. The petition(s) must have the signature of the officiating priest.

Please ensure that all information is clear and legible. Retain the original documents in case the bishop requests to review them during the approval process.
