Community Engagement Toolkit Workgroup Application

The WA Office of Equity is looking for community members to serve on a temporary Workgroup which will help us improve how state agencies work with the people they serve. Members of the Workgroup will share feedback on the Office of Equity's Community Engagement Toolkit. We want to know what you think of what we have written and what, if anything, is missing.

We are looking for applicants who have lived experience serving on state government workgroups, boards, commissions, or advisory committees, and/or have experience advocating on policies like the Nothing About Us Without Us Act.

This is a paid opportunity for people who qualify (see more details about this below in the "About Payment" section). The Workgroup will hold 4-6 online meetings total, starting in July, 2025. Meetings will range from 1-2 hours in length. There are 9 open positions for community members to apply.

If you need help filling out this application, you can schedule a phone call and complete an application by talking with someone from the EQUITY team instead of writing your answers on this form. Email LivedExperience@equity.wa.gov if you have any questions or accommodation needs.

Disclaimer: this application, like all written communication with your state and local government, is subject to Public Disclosure. That means that if a member of the public requests to see this application, it would be available to them. Please keep that in mind as you fill out this form.

About Payment

This is a paid opportunity for people who qualify. Qualifying Workgroup members will be paid at a rate of $57 per hour for meeting attendance. Whether or not you qualify for payment, you can still serve on this Workgroup. Your payment eligibility will not impact your application at all.

To qualify for payment:

You must not be doing this as part of your paid job.

  • If you're already getting paid by an employer to do this kind of work, you wouldn’t be eligible for extra payment from us. For example, if your full-time job is to advocate on disability policies, that would mean this workgroup would fall under your current job description, and you would already be getting paid for this work.

You must not earn more than a certain amount of money.

  • Your yearly income can’t be more than 400% of the federal poverty level adjusted for your household size. A member of our staff can help you figure out whether or not your income is at the right level to qualify.

You must have “lived experience.”

  • “Lived experience” means that you have had some experience with the topic of the Workgroup. We are looking for people who worked as community activists or advocates supporting the Nothing About Us Without Us Act, or people who have served on other on state government workgroups in the past.

You must either already have, or be willing to get, a Statewide Vendor Number. We can help you with this if you need support.

  • A Member of our staff can help you fill out the paperwork needed to receive payment. If you are chosen to join the Workgroup, we will follow up with you about these steps.

Next Steps

This application form will be open for 2 weeks, closing on June 20, 2025. After the application form is closed, we will reach out to you to let you know next steps. You will either be selected for the next round of interviews, or if you are not selected we will let you know by June 23, 2025.
