M.Eng. Project Proposal

Chemical Engineering Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) students complete customer-facing team-based projects to conclude their degree requirements and prepare students for careers in industry. (Past project examples.)

Student project teams each have a dedicated CBE faculty manager to support learning and ensure quality. Projects are assigned mid-Fall, with initial assessments in late Fall and full work beginning in Spring.

Sponsors can define business-relevant challenges, like assessing a new technology’s commercialization potential or shaping a nascent market’s value proposition. This work delivers valuable insights and hands-on learning for students, and partnering with our faculty creates a direct pipeline to recruit graduates trained in their field.

Generally, a one-page project proposal document includes:

  • Project Objective
  • Technology Description
  • Approach
  • Outcomes

Focus areas of interest:

  • Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
  • Energy and Sustainability
  • Medical and Industrial Biotechnology

We invite you to collaborate with us and leverage the fresh perspectives and innovative ideas of our M.Eng. students. If you are interested in providing project ideas, please complete the form below, and we can arrange a meeting to discuss the details further.

Thank you for considering this exciting opportunity to work with Cornell's future engineering leaders.

This organization point person enables the student team to fulfill the project objectives by providing information, guidance, and access to key resources in a timely fashion.

Confidentiality

If you select yes, your agreement will include a Non-Disclosure Agreement. Keep in mind that there are certain aspects of a project that cannot be confidential such as data, project title, project description, outcomes, analysis and/or results.

Intellectual Property

Our M.Eng. projects focus on translating, commercializing, and/or scaling existing technologies. Given that these are not research projects, any potential intellectual property issues are minimized. If you are concerned about a project team talking with potential customers, note that good customer discovery techniques do not include talking about technology, rather, the interviews talk about the problem the customer seeks to solve, how they do it today, and how eager they are to solve it.

Cornell shall not assert ownership over Intellectual Property (IP) created by the student participant(s) in connection with the project.

Project Agreement

Please provide contact information for the appropriate Administrative Contact authorized to facilitate a project agreement, if required. (Projects with an NDA or IP agreement require a project agreement.)
