Preparedness Outreach / Public Education

Pierce County Emergency Management can provide or arrange speakers on personal preparedness and neighborhood preparedness topics. Please review the selections and choose which best meets the needs of your community, neighborhood, work place or school. Select the topic(s) of interest and fill out the rest of the form. Personal and Neighborhood Preparedness:

Learn about real hazards in Pierce County, how to make an effective evacuation and communication plan and how to build a Go-Kit.

•    Audience: All ages, HOAs, neighborhood groups and community groups

•    Run time: 20-60 minutes

•    Cost: $0

 

Pierce County Neighborhood Emergency Teams (PC-NET) learn about personal preparedness, neighborhood preparedness and the importance of working together after a disaster.

•    Audience: All ages, HOAs, neighborhood groups and community groups

•    Run time: 5- 2 hour meetings including a final drill

•    Cost: $0

 

In this course, you will learn skills and get hands-on practice on how to use disaster first aid and perform immediate triage following an event.

•    Course offered quarterly

•    First Aid Certificate is awarded

•    Audience: 18+, HOAs, neighborhood groups and community groups

•    Run time: 8 hours

•    Cost: $0

 

In this course, you will learn and practice bleeding control actions to prevent a death following a traumatic event.

•    Course embedded in Disaster First Aid Course. Can be taught separately.

•    Stop the Bleed Certificate is awarded

•    Audience: 18+, HOAs, neighborhood groups and community groups

•    Run time: 2 hours

•    Cost: $0

Select the materials you would like provided to your organization or household. If you are also requesting a talk, the materials will be provided at that time. If requesting only materials, you will be contacted to make arrangements for mailing or pick up.

 
 

 

Event Information

Please allow 1-2 weeks for a public educator to contact you regarding your event request. A confirmation or a request for additional dates/times will be sent via email. The duration of an emergency preparedness presentation can range anywhere from 20 minutes to one hour. Please keep this in mind when you provide an event time. The time frame you list does not include set-up or take-down. The presenter will set-up 10-15 minutes before the start of the presentation and take-down shortly after the presentation concludes.
