Special Event Fund FY25
Application
Mayor Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) launched the Special Event Fund to support events that celebrate the culture of the District of Columbia and support local communities. The Special Event Fund will partially cover the cost of unpaid DC Government Fees for approved special events by paying the agency costs directly.
Eligible Events
Events must meet the following criteria to be eligible to receive support from the Special Event Fund:
The event must be held outdoors and occur between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025.
Events must be open to the public (preference is free).
Events must be able to demonstrate a significant economic impact on the District.
The main purpose of the event should not be to generate revenue or serve as a fundraiser for an organization.
The event must be committed to fostering an experience for all visitors and residents.
The event cannot be religiously affiliated in a way that excludes other faiths or forms of belief, or lack thereof.
The applicant must be the event organizer.
Events must receive DC Government services from at least one of the eligible agencies (see eligible cost list below)
When to Apply
Applicants should apply at least 30 days prior to the event.
Applications must be submitted no later than September 1, 2024, for events occurring by September 30, 2024.
Eligible Costs
Through the Special Event Fund, DMPED may cover unpaid DC Government fees for special events (which may include permit fees, equipment rental, personnel costs, or other special event services) from the following agencies for approved events. DMPED will pay these agencies directly and will not directly pay or reimburse the event organizer.
Metropolitan Police Department (MPD)
Fire and Emergency Medical Services (FEMS)
Department of Public Works (DPW)
District Department of Transportation (DDOT)
Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR)
Funds cannot be used to pay for any other event costs other than DC Government fees for the above agencies. Funds are paid directly to the agencies and no funds are disbursed directly to an event organizer.
Required Information
The following documents must be submitted with your application. Please prepare these documents for beginning your application.
Event Budget (direct and indirect expenditures): Must complete budget template click link to download a copy.
Instructions: Click the link above to download and save a copy of template on your computer. Then proceed to fill out only the yellow fields. Upload the completed budget into the application at the end.
Prior Event Budget: please use the budget template above to complete.
Agency Cost Estimates: Current invoices or estimates for the cost of DC Government services for the event. Applicants will have an opportunity to provide final invoices after submitting application. Applicants that do not provide this information may be required to provide an estimate prior to receiving a determination of award.
Note: agency estimates are needed to deem application complete and ready for review.
Next Steps
DMPED will review applications on a rolling basis and notify event organizers if the event is approved and which agency services will be covered by the Fund. DMPED will also directly notify the agencies that it will cover the cost of some or all the agency's services for the approved event pending funding availability.
