International Crisis Response Scholarship (ICRS) Application
The new International Crisis Response Scholarship (ICRS) is for undergraduate or graduate international students whose education has been interrupted by humanitarian crisis, conflict or natural disaster in their home society. ICRS recipients will benefit from advising support and community integration to ease the transition to the UO from situations of crisis.
Following the model of the UO’s International Cultural Service Program (ICSP) scholarship, ICRS awardees will receive training to make periodic presentations about their home cultures at UO and in the surrounding communities. Award recipients commit to completing 50 hours of cultural service per year, which may involve speaking or demonstrating aspects of their country's heritage and culture to schools or community groups, or engaging in international campus events. ICRS and ICSP recipients thus become international cultural ambassadors to the communities in and around the University of Oregon.
Applications for the ICRS award will be reviewed by a standing faculty and staff committee. Recipients of the ICRS will generally not be eligible for other scholarships from the Division of Global Engagement.
Review will take into account the nature of the crisis and the potential for the applicant to contribute after graduation to rebuilding, resolution, reconciliation, restoration or other remedies in their home society. Awards are funding-contingent, and we expect an average of 1-2 awards per year.
