PROTECT YOUR FUTURE AND HEALTH:
ESTATE PLANNING INFORMATION AND CONSULTATION
The New York City Council Speaker, Adrienne Adams, is collaborating with local law schools and pro bono attorneys to offer estate planning information and assistance to qualified participants. After a free consultation, you may be eligible to have estate planning documents (such as a last will and testament, power of attorney, healthcare proxy, etc.) prepared for you for free. These critical documents allow you to protect your assets and plan for an unexpected illness or long-term care.

ESTATE PLANNING CRITERIA
Estate planning services may be made available to qualified participants aged 50 and up with annual income (from government assistance, retirement benefits, or salary) of less than $100,000.00. To determine whether you are eligible to receive estate planning services through this collaboration, you must first complete the confidential* pre-screening questionnaire that will be used to assess your eligibility for participation in the program by OCTOBER 1, 2024.
ESTATE PLANNING EDUCATION AND CONSULTATION INTAKE
If you are eligible, you will be invited to attend an in-person intake day.**
We will reach out to you personally to provide you with a new link so that you can book a timeslot at one of the in-person intake days happening across the City, where you will consult with either a supervised student attorney or a pro bono attorney (“attorney”) to further discuss your assets (including your current and future income, as well as the current ownership status of your personal property and real property—house or apartment) and future healthcare wishes.
At the intake day, if you remain eligible to receive services, an attorney will inform you of which documents they will prepare on your behalf, at no cost to you. They will then reach out to you at a future date so that you can obtain the final documents.
If after the initial consultation, you are deemed ineligible to receive a particular service, you will be referred to another organization that may be able to provide you with estate planning services.***
If you need assistance and are able to pay for an attorney, you can begin your search for an elder law or estate planning attorney at the following websites:
* Your personal information will be kept confidential will only be used to determine program eligibility and schedule intake appointments through a third party website.
** Participation in the intake day does not guarantee receipt of services.
*** You may be referred to a service provider that charges a fee for services. Please discuss any potential costs with the provider after receiving the referral.
**** There may be a fee associated with use of the referral service.
