eCampus Course Prototype Sharing Agreement
As a service unit of the University System of Georgia, USG eCampus facilitates curriculum development for eCore and eMajor online courses in GoView, the shared D2L LMS instance administered by USG eCampus. eCore and eMajor courses are offered through cooperative academic arrangements with USG partner institutions, and the intellectual property contained within the eCampus curriculum is fully owned by the University System of Georgia.
USG institutions are free to use USG eCore course prototypes to support curriculum development at their respective institutions. Curriculum for eMajor courses is owned by cooperative partners and overseen by the Curriculum Leadership Committee for each eMajor program. eMajor course prototypes are only shared with the participants in the academic consortium. Prior to utilizing exported eCore content, LMS administrators, campus administrators, and faculty should review the following information.
eCore Instructional Model
The eCore instructional model differs from most single institutions, where individual faculty contribute intellectual property to develop courses within their department. Curriculum for the same course may vary significantly between teaching faculty in a campus department. Faculty may also select textbooks and supplemental resources that vary in cost and accessibility, with different fees incurred by students.
USG eCore courses are developed by a cooperative group of USG faculty subject matter experts and standardized to ensure that students receive an affordable, accessible, high quality online learning experience. Teaching faculty receive a fully developed course that includes all instructional content, learning activities to support regular and substantive interaction with students, and evidence-based teaching and grading resources. Prior to teaching an eCore class, faculty complete the eCampus Faculty Certification Course to learn best practices for asynchronous online instruction and receive approval from their department chair, dean, and provost.
Textbooks and supplemental resources are provided free of charge to eCore students, including lab kits, academic tutoring, librarian services, testing support, help desk, and student support. Proctoring services are the only fees that may be occasionally incurred by students in selected STEM and Math courses.
Since institutional equivalent courses likely provide different resources for students and faculty, and may require students to purchase textbooks or supplemental materials, eCore course content must be thoroughly reviewed and revised before being exported to institutional LMS instances.
Data-Driven Curriculum
USG eCampus uses data-driven processes for all curriculum development and revision. Teams of credentialed faculty from across USG serve as subject matter experts on each collaborative course development and revision with academic oversight from the eCore RAC. Courses meet or exceed rigorous quality standards for online curriculum and are subject to formal rubric evaluation by credentialed subject matter experts before being released in GoView.
Course performance and student learning outcomes data is monitored and reported regularly to eCampus teaching faculty, affiliate institutions, and the eCore RAC. Minor course revisions for continuous improvement are ongoing based on data from faculty and student surveys, and courses are also subject to substantive major revision on a recurring cycle. Due to the ongoing nature of data-driven continuous improvement processes at USG eCampus, courses may change significantly from term to term.
Course Copy Guidelines
USG eCore courses should not be provided for student access without first evaluating and revising course content. Each course prototype contains eCampus branding elements and information that direct students to eCampus resources (Help Desk, eTesting, Student Services, and USG eCampus administrative offices).
Prior to utilizing eCore course content or prototypes, institutions should review and modify all content to ensure that it is aligned to appropriate institutional branding and contains accurate information for students and faculty directing them to resources at the institution.
A list of content elements that contain eCampus branding include:
- Individual content pages are built on HTML templates that include eCampus logos on each page footer.
- Syllabus - There are multiple places in each course syllabus with eCampus-specific information or student links.
- Proctored Exams: Proctored Exam Information Page - There may be references/links to eCampus proctoring procedures or testing resources for students. On the exam itself, some courses may include eTesting contact information in the exam description. In the exam settings, a notification email is sent to etestlog@westga.edu upon exam completion. That email address will need to be removed.
- Course Resources - This content module has several eCampus-specific resources.
- Videos - This includes the Academic Honesty video in the Start Module as well as unit/lesson lecture videos. eCore/eMajor branded videos should be removed.
This list is not exhaustive, and individual courses may feature additional branded content elements not identified above. It is the responsibility of the requesting institution to thoroughly review all USG eCampus instructional content and make the required modifications before using it in a different LMS instance. Under no circumstances should any acquired course content be shared outside the USG.
After courses have been exported, the requesting institution accepts full responsibility for academic oversight and maintenance of the content. Course prototypes may be substantially revised by USG eCampus without subsequent notification to the requesting institution. In addition, technical elements within courses may be modified by USG eCampus to support D2L system updates and LMS integrations without further notification to the requesting institution.
Submission of this request indicates an agreement with the course prototype sharing agreement.
