Sign-Up for upcoming Best Utility Management Practices (BUMP) Training Announcements

Best Utility Management Practices (BUMP) Training is offered by the NC Department of Environment, Division of Water Infrastructure's Viable Utility Unit as a FREE in-person, all-day course twice a year (fall and spring).

Sign-up here to be notified about the upcoming BUMP Training session when details are available and to share your preferences about BUMP training to better inform our planning.

REMINDER: Distressed LGUs are statutorily required to send a delegation to BUMP training as part of the Viable Utility Program (VUP) comprising at least:

  • 2 Elected Officials
  • 1 Financial staff
  • 1 Utility/Technical staff

Distressed LGUs are also required to keep their training status current, so if you have had turnover of trained staff, please send their replacements for training. ALL LGUs/utilities are welcome to participate and LGUs may send more than 4 participants (the more the merrier!). Those who have already attended BUMP training are NOT required to attend training again, but are welcome to attend as a refresher at any time.

Unsure of your LGU's BUMP Training status? Contact the VU training coordinator, Tony Dongarra (tony.dongarra@deq.nc.gov or 919-707-3632).

BUMP Training Preferences

While we like in-person trainings for the networking and interaction benefits, we are considering the possibility of creating a live, virtual option to supplement our in-person trainings for those who find it difficult to attend in person. Your feedback will help to inform our decision. What do you think?

Please let us know your preferences for in-person and/or virtual trainings. SELECT ALL THAT APPLY.

Virtual options could include the possibility of shorter virtual sessions over multiple days and/or evenings. For virtual, also indicate your preferences for morning, afternoon, and/or evening sessions.

Do you have any recommendations for venues to host a training or cities/towns/counties to look for venues? Or is there a preferred max driving distance/length you can attend? [List location preferences]

We try to select venues that are within a reasonable driving distance to our training participants and welcome recommendations.

Are there are any particular days of the week/month and/or dates that would be helpful to aim for and/or avoid? [List day/date preferences]

Currently, spring trainings are typically around February (sometimes March) and fall trainings are typically around September.

Are there any particular topics you'd like to learn more about, questions you have, and/or challenges your utility is facing? [Describe]

Having a better understanding of your areas of interest will help us develop further content for future trainings and connect distressed LGUs with resources. Thanks for your input!

Please let us know if you have any additional comments and/or questions about BUMP training or the Viable Utility Program (VUP) in general.
