Interested in Starting a Circle?

Responsibilities of circle lay leaders include:

  • Choosing the event site, date and time, making sure that it does not conflict with any other major/similar demographic IKAR events
  • Providing an event at least 1x month
  • Provide a calendar for 3 months of planned events to Morgan quarterly.
  • Provide event details/blurbs/royalty-free photos (leaders should try to take photos) at least 2 weeks in advance (30 days preferable) to Morgan
  • Goal of 8 people to attend first meeting
  • Providing supplies and consumables for the event if needed using $300 stipend.
  • Sending reminders to members about events within a week of the event’s start time
  • Marketing events outside of website (IKARites, email, etc)
  • Maintaining a line of communication between all circle members (I.E.: text, email, discord, etc.)
  • (if making a smartsheet registration form) Make a Smartsheets account to log in an keep track of new group members
  • Providing feedback after each event to Morgan


IKAR staff duties include:

  • Creating any forms necessary for gathering attendee information before an event or meeting (i.e.: RSVP forms)
  • Responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner
  • Offer a $300 stipend per year (ends July)
  • Promoting the event the week of on our Newsletter
  • Promoting the event on the website
  • Brainstorming events with leaders


New Circle Protocol:

 Meeting with Morgan to go over potential new Circle idea and protocol.

  1. Within the meeting, Morgan to fill out the New Circle Inquiry form


Morgan to ask the following key questions:

i.    Are you able to commit to at least 1x event each month or at least quarterly?

ii.    Where will the event(s) be primarily located?

iii.    Are you comfortable facilitating this Circle?

iv.    Are you a member of IKAR?


Morgan to explain staff involvement/expectations with Circles (see New Circle Inquiry)

vi.    Explain next steps (see 3)


Morgan to discuss findings with Rabbi Silver for approval

a.    Once RDS approves, Morgan to reach out to Membership Committee (Kathy/Razel) for next steps.

i.    Morgan to inform MC about new Circle and introduce them to lay-leader(s).


 Morgan to create a New Circle Interest Survey (see template) and promote it in the Weekly for (2) weeks.

a.    Survey to ask the following key questions:

i.    General interest in the new circle/description

ii.    Interest in home-hosted, virtual, or both? (depending on what the lay-leader asks for)


For home-hosted, provide general area location and inquire if they would be able to make it.

iii.    Able to make 1x month/week/quarterly event? (depending on lay-leaders availability)

iv.    Open question: What activities/events would you like to see from this circle?


Circle is approved when the following criteria is met:

i.    Lay-leader commits to Circle protocol

ii.    Lay-leader is a member of IKAR

iii.    Interest of at least 8 people

iv.    First event is planned and promoted

 -Goal to try to have at least 8 people attend first event

 -If event goes well, lay-leader to schedule remaining events for the calendar year, provide them to the new Circle members, and share with Morgan for calendaring.
