Student Assistant Hiring Request
Welcome! To get started, please provide some basic details on you and your intended STDT hire.
Please enter the name of the student you'd like to hire as a STDT.
If you don't have a particular student in mind, it's okay to leave this field blank. Staff can work with you to prepare a public job posting to find a good candidate.
...and their email address, if you have someone in mind.
Thank you! Now, let's talk about the details around the hire itself.
Please let us know the period for which you'd like to hire this student. This could be "Fall and Winter Quarters 2029", or "over the summer" -- any and all detail will be helpful in providing you a final cost estimate.
What fund source would you like to use for this hire?
It's okay if you don't know too many details, too. This could be "I think I have UCOP funds", a specific chart string, or any other information.
Many types of funding are managed internally by the department. However, some fund sources are managed elsewhere on campus. If you know, please let us know which yours is. If you don't, it's okay to leave as "Internal".
Please Note: Due to the recent uncertainties affecting many funding agencies, we strongly recommend that externally-supported STDT hires only proceed if the funds supporting them have already been transmitted to UC Davis. If you are not sure, please contact the L&S Research Administration team for more information.
What kind of work will the student be doing for you in their STDT role?
What's the intended FTE of this hire? Note that this should correspond as best as possible to the student's estimated workload relative to a 40-hour work week. For example, 25% employees are expected to devote about 10 hours of effort per week toward their role.
This need not be final, but roughly what hourly salary were you envisioning for this hire? The range currently extends from $16 to $45 an hour.
Thanks for providing all this information! Your Graduate Program Coordinator will be reviewing the information provided, and will be verifying the student's eligibility for employment and reaching out to you to provide a final cost estimate.
