University of Colorado School of Medicine Distinguished Clinician Awards - 2025

These annual awards recognize up to 8 clinicians for the Distinguished Clinician Award, who are current active, full-time (at least 50% FTE) faculty members of the University of Colorado School of Medicine at the rank of Instructor, Sr. Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of Clinical Practice, Professor, or Professor of Clinical Practice.

Distinguished Clinician Award

This annual award recognizes up to eight (8) clinicians. Eligible recipients must be current active faculty members of the University of Colorado School of Medicine.


The purpose of the award is to:

  • Recognize outstanding clinicians for their dedication to providing excellent patient care and for sharing their clinical knowledge and skills with others.
  • Indicate the value University of Colorado School of Medicine places on faculty who are predominantly focused on clinical care.
  • Nurture a University of Colorado School of Medicine patient-centered culture.


ELIGIBILITY:

Nominee must be a University of Colorado School of Medicine full-time (at least 50% FTE) faculty member at at all ranks. Note: previously, this award was separated into two categories: Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers. This year, we are combining both into one award, and all full-time faculty that provide clinical service are eligible.


The nominee must have a sustained (e.g., 10 years or more in practice, after completion of final training), substantial and current footprint in the clinical practice (clinical FTE of ≥.50 FTE, not including supervision of learners). The awardee cannot be a previous recipient of this award. See previous awardees here.


AWARD CRITERIA:

1) Clinical expertise

  • Recognized for mastery of an area of clinical medicine
  • Consulted often by other clinicians for expertise
  • Recognized and respected by colleagues who provide clinical care
  • Performs clinical duties with excellence and achieves outstanding clinical outcomes


2) Sustained exceptional clinical service to University of Colorado School of Medicine


3) Demonstrated patient-centered behaviors

  • Sees additional patients in an already busy practice
  • Provides compassionate care
  • Receives excellent patient reviews/satisfaction scores


4) High standard of professionalism

  • Assists and readily shares expertise with other clinicians, staff, and learners
  • Seeks opportunities to help others in patient care settings
  • Displays high standards of personal integrity
  • Demonstrates a humanistic approach to patient care and to interactions with colleagues
  • Exhibits University of Colorado School of Medicine values


NOMINATIONS:

Nomination will be accepted from peers, chairs, division chiefs, and other clinical leaders. Please attach letters of support (maximum of 3) from patients, students, trainees, colleagues, division chiefs, department chairs, or health system leaders which clearly address each area of the four criteria areas above. ​​This award is intended for the ‘unsung hero’ in clinical practice. There is no need to elaborate on research, education, or practice innovation accomplishments in the letters of support. The review committee will select awardees based on the information provided in these letters. Please combine all letters of support and submit in one nomination submission.
