Part I: Instructions

In order for a course to be considered for college admission and eligibility for Oklahoma's Promise, the following are required:


  1. A separate form for each course being requested for review.
  2. An approved syllabus that includes, at minimum:
  • A detailed course description
  • Textbook(s) and other required course materials used
  • Measurable course learning outcomes
  • A course outline summarizing each unit of instruction as well as the time spent on each unit. Each unit within the course outline shall also detail the assignments, exams, and activities that are aligned with, and effectively measure, each learning objective.

Part II: Basic Course Information

High School Curricular Requirements for Admission to Programs Leading to AA, AS and Baccalaureate Degrees.


  • English (grammar, composition, literature; should include an integrated writing component)
  • Lab Science (Biology, chemistry, physics or any lab science certified by the school district; General science with or without a lab may not be used to meet this requirement.)
  • Mathematics (from algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, math analysis, pre-calculus, statistics and probability (must have completed geometry and Algebra II), calculus, Advanced Placement statistics)
  • History and Citizenship Skills (including one unit of American history and two additional units from the subjects of history, economics, geography, government, non-Western culture)
  • Additional units of subjects previously listed or selected from: computer science, foreign language, or any Advanced Placement course, psychology, sociology, or any liberal arts and sciences course (as defined below) taken via concurrent enrollment at a State System institution that is not being utilized to fulfill any area previously listed.

Part III: Rationale for Approval

Courses being used to meet the requirements for a standard diploma should serve a primary purpose of preparing students for general education courses students will complete at a college or university. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education's Undergraduate Degree Requirements policy describes the purpose of general education as follows:


An institution’s general education program should impart common knowledge and intellectual concepts that every educated person should possess. Effective general education should help students gain competence in independent intellectual inquiry and stimulate the examination and understanding of personal, social, and civic engagement.
