Scholarship Application Form for Fall Awards

Students interested in applying for select scholarships within the College of Nursing should complete this form and upload any required materials by the deadline. The deadline to be considered for these awards is April 1st.


Please submit your 2026-2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the April 1st deadline. Click here to access the FAFSA: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.


Other need-based scholarships listed on the College's website may only require you to complete a 2025-2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the upcoming academic year in order to be considered.


Individuals interested in applying for multiple scholarships should submit separate forms for each scholarship. This form will reload once you press the "submit" button. Federated Woman's Club of Albuquerque Scholarship

Recipients must:

•    Be a New Mexico resident

•    Submit a 2024-2025 FAFSA and have unmet financial need

•    Submit a one-page essay explaining your intent to practice in New Mexico after graduation


Award Amount: $300-$500

# of Awards: 1

Hall-Carper, Huntsinger and Martinez Scholarship Endowment

Recipients must:

•    Be bilingual in Spanish

•    Be a New Mexico resident

•    Submit a 2024-2025 FAFSA and have unmet financial need

•    Submit an essay explaining your desire to enter into the field of public health nursing in New Mexico


Award Amount: $600-$750

Julie Mann Scholarship in Nursing

Recipients must:

•    Be a new Fall admit in a UNM BSN NMNEC program (HSC Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Freshman Direct-Entry or Dual Degree)

•    Be in good academic standing

•    Be a New Mexico resident

•    Submit an essay answering the following question:

According to Healthy People 2020, health equity is defined as, “the attainment of the highest level of health for all people.” How do you envision the profession of nursing to contribute to the health equity in Northern New Mexico?


*Preference will be given to students at UNM Taos students.



Award Amount: Tuition, fees, and books for a duration of the program

Louise Grey Kiger Nursing Scholarship

Recipients must:

•    Be at least one-quarter American Indian and a member of a federally recognized American Tribe

•    Be enrolled as a full-time student in the College of Nursing at UNM either as an undergraduate or graduate student

•    Submit a 2024-2025 FAFSA and have unmet financial need

•    Submit a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB)


Award Amount: $300-$800

# of Awards: 4-8

NMNEC Native American Gallup Student Scholarship

Recipient must:

•    Be enrolled in the NMNEC BSN program at UNM Gallup

•    Be a member in a federally or state recognized Native American tribe

•    Submit a 2024-2025 FAFSA and have unmet financial need

•    Submit a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB)


Award Amount: $500-$1,000

Thomas A. Plein Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund

Recipients must:

•    Be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate nursing program

•    Be a member of the Navajo Nation and future leader of the Navajo community

•    Be in good academic standing

•    Submit a 2024-2025 FAFSA and have unmet financial need

•    Submit a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB)


Award Amount: $300-$800

# of Awards: 2-7

Thornton Family Scholarship

Recipients must:

•    Be a student who intends to practice in rural New Mexico

•    Be in good academic standing and hold a minimum GPA of 3.2.

•    Submit an essay explaining your intent to practice nursing in New Mexico after graduation
