Equitable Development Task Force Interest Form
The Equitable Development Task Force (EDTF) was created in 2022 by Detroit City Councilmember Latisha Johnson and is co-chaired by Councilmember Gabriela Santiago-Romero. The task force focuses on addressing the needs of underserved Detroit neighborhoods by working to advance policies and programs that reduce social and economic disparities in an effort to promote and ensure the neighborhoods where people live are healthy and vibrant.
There are three subcommittees to select from:
Economic Development and Accessibility Subcommittee: The mission of the subcommittee is to understand the City of Detroit’s current economic development practices, to research differing methodologies for improving and expanding the reach of such practices, and to suggest new policy approaches and implementation strategies to make the City’s economic development processes more equitable and accessible to more residents.
Taxation Subcommittee: This subcommittee is focused on tax restructuring, revenues raised and abated by the city and taxing authorities.
Zoning and Land Use Subcommittee: The subcommittee is focused on infusing more equity and engagement into the process for updating the Master Plan of Policies, minimizing industrial impacts to residential neighborhoods through zoning, and examining community land trust policies.
