Expression of Interest - Our Watch Communities of Practice 2023-24

The Communities of Practice (CoPs) are aimed at building on and expanding the knowledge, skills and confidence of practitioners who have participated in Our Watch's Change the story training workshops (either full-day or half-day options). In a respectful and inclusive space, the CoPs aim to promote:

  • Connection and collaboration,
  • Continued peer-learning on topics related to the Change the story framework, and
  • Sharing and reflection on the enablers and barriers to primary prevention of violence practice.

The Communities of Practice will build on foundational, evidence-based knowledge to equip the prevention workforce with the tools and confidence to implement primary prevention actions in places they live, work, learn, socialise and play. Our Watch facilitators will coordinate and support an online CoP monthly, over four sessions. Each session will run for an hour and a half, with topics being guided by participants themselves.

Participation in either of these CoPs requires prior attendance at a Change the story training or a working knowledge of this framework.

Participants are required to attend all four sessions.

Sessions for the new and emerging community of practice will run on:

  • August 8, 2023, 1:00-2:30pm AEST
  • September 5, 2023, 1:00-2:30pm AEST
  • October 3, 2023, 1:00-2:30pm AEST

Our communities of practice are popular and free. They are aimed at supporting and connecting people who have a working knowledge of primary prevention and the Change the story framework. Each program is capped to ensure a positive and collaborative experience. As such, we try to select participants from a diversity of settings, backgrounds and geographical locations.
