Clinical Rotation Housing Stipend Application

This stipend is designed to support students who volunteer to complete a required rotation away from their home campus due to capacity constraints. Before applying, students are asked to explore housing options to determine if the stipend is necessary.


Parameters for Stipend Eligibility:

  1. The rotation must be a core, required rotation (elective rotations are not eligible).
  2. The rotation site must be outside the city where the majority of required clerkships are scheduled, due to capacity constraints in that area. (e.g. all clerkships are in Twin Cities, but this rotation is in Duluth due to capacity limits)
  3. The rotation must be 2 weeks or longer.
  4. The student will incur additional housing costs because they must maintain two residences during the rotation period.
  5. Maximum award: $500 per 2-week period, with a maximum of $1,000 per rotation.

  • Spring 2025 Courses: Friday, April 28, 2025
  • Summer 2025 Courses: Friday, August 8, 2025
  • Fall 2025 Courses: TBD
  • Spring 2026 Courses: TBD


Important Notes:

  • Students must look for housing before applying and indicate their anticipated housing costs in their application.
  • Separate applications must be submitted for each stipend request, adhering to the same eligibility parameters.

  • I have incurred, or will incur, the additional housing costs outlined in this application due to the necessity of maintaining two residences for a short period of time during my rotation.


  • All information provided in this application is accurate to the best of my knowledge. I understand that the details I have submitted are subject to review by the Medical School and the Office of Student Finance to ensure eligibility for this award.


  • If approved by the Medical School, up to $1,000 will be disbursed to my University student account by the Medical School Financial Aid Office. This disbursement will not affect my standard financial aid budget, as it is specific to housing expenses related to my rotation.


  • This application serves as my appeal/request to the Medical School Financial Aid Office for a budget adjustment consideration for rotation housing expenses.


  • I acknowledge that if my schedule changes and I no longer incur the outlined housing expenses, I will be responsible for reimbursing the University of Minnesota Medical School for any funds received.
