Sanford Volunteer Scholarship

Application Period: December 9 - February 10

The Sanford Health Volunteer Services scholarships are available for Sanford Health Volunteers in Sioux Falls, SD. Funding for the scholarships comes from a variety of funds from the Sanford Foundation to support volunteers in their educational endeavors.

Purpose: Support Sanford Health student volunteers who are pursuing a health care related field of study.

Requirements & Eligibility:

Applicants must:

• Be a current or previous Sanford Health Volunteer at locations in Sioux Falls, SD. Volunteers must meet a minimum service requirement of 12 shifts and/or 40 hours.
• Display dedication to their volunteer positions.
• Actively be pursuing a health care related field of study.

Along with this application, please be sure to submit the following:

1. Most recent transcript
2. Resume: this should fit onto one page and include work history, community service, school involvement, honors and hobbies.
3. Responses to Personal Snapshot Short Answer Questions: these should be 50-75 words
4. Motivation for Healthcare Career Essay
5. Two letters of recommendation –

• Character Reference: This one-page letter should be from an adult (non-relative) who can write about your qualities as a person. This could be someone you know well who can speak to your character and values.
• Academic Reference: This one-page letter on official letterhead should be from an Education Professional who can write about your academic progress, goals, and/or future success.

Award: Up to 11 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 as a one-time award.

Award Distribution: Payment will be dispersed in April. Scholarship awards are paid directly to you, the volunteer. To ensure a smooth transition of funds, please follow the below steps:

• Employees - Please make sure to have your direct deposit set up in One Source (Workday) prior to the end of the desired semester or before payment is to be sent. For step by step instructions on how to set this up refer to the Manage Payment Elections for Expense Reimbursements located on the One Source Expenses article.
• Volunteer - The application has a section to complete and upload your W-9 form, please complete this prior to submitting your application.

Donors: Funds for the Health Career and Berenice Johnson Scholarships come from the Sanford Foundation - Sioux Falls Healthcare Enhancement Fund. Funding for the Floyd and Isabel Heinemann Scholarship comes from the Floyd and Isabel Heinemann Memorial Endowment for Volunteers.
