Pool and Waterfront Safety Application: Summer 2025

All applicants must be at least 16 years old to be considered for employment.


DCR's hiring preference is for persons available to work up to to 40 hours per week throughout the summer. Limited part-time positions may be available based upon facility need. Please be sure to review any scheduling concerns including any plans for summer vacations with our team during your screening conversation. You will receive information on how to schedule this call after we review your application.

Employment Requirements:

  • All applicants must be at least 16 years old.
  • Applicants under the age of 18 years must present a valid work permit issued by their local school department. DCR will email you the appropriate form should we offer your a position.
  • Pool Managers, Assistant Managers and Waterfront Supervisors must be 21 years of age or older and must be certified in CPR.
  • All lifeguards must possess current certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED. Lifeguards at waterfront areas must also be certified in Waterfront Rescue Skills.
  • State law requires lifeguards working at DCR facilities to undergo annual CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer training. Lifeguard candidates who were certified in CPR/AED prior to 9/2/24 will need to recertify.
  • Pool Managers and Assistant Managers must possess current certification in Practical Pool Management PLUS, Aquatic Facility Operator or Certified Pool & Spa Operator. We will offer this training and all offers of employment are conditioned upon successful completion of the course.

Once we review your application, we will contact you via email with a hyperlink you can use to schedule a time to speak with us about your application, your swimming ability (lifeguard/instructor positions), upcoming classes (including Lifeguarding, CPR and Pool Operator courses), positions available, etc. All scheduling will be done online. Please note, we need to speak directly with the applicant.

We are not able to reliably send/receive emails to iCloud addresses. We strongly recommend using a different email provider for DCR purposes, e.g. GMail. You may be able to adjust the settings of your secondary email to automatically forward all incoming messages to your primary email.

DPH Pool Practicum*

All Pool Managers and Assistant Pool Managers (including school teachers) must attend a one-day practicum training led by the Mass Dept. of Public Health. This year the DPH Pool Practicum will be held on Wednesday, June 11th in Worcester and Thursday, June 12th in Boston. Are you able to attend one of these training sessions?

Certifications

Candidates for lifeguarding and all Recreational Facility Supervisor positions must submit copies of their certifications to their Regional PWS team. If you are already certified, you can upload your certifications below. If you were certified from the American Red Cross, you can download your certificate at https://www.redcross.org/take-a-class/digital-certificate
