Hall of Fame Guidelines

A Hall of Fame (HOF) nominee will have experienced remarkable achievements as an athlete participant, made substantial contributions to the lives of people with intellectual disabilities as a volunteer, coach, sponsor, donor, organization or business.
An athlete nominee is a current or previous athlete of Special Olympics Florida who has demonstrated leadership within the community and has led by example our mission and athlete’s oath.
HOF nominees will fall into one of the following categories:
- Athlete
- Non-Athlete (coach, volunteer, staff member)
- Sponsor (business, organization, donor)
Nomination Requirements:
- All athlete nominees shall have shown significant involvement for a minimum of 5 years with no behavior reports or suspensions.
- Non-athlete nominees must have exhibited exemplary participation/involvement/success for a period of at least 10 years.
- Nominations must be submitted online adhering to the established format and guidelines.
- Nominations must include biographical information and have quantifiable achievements and/or contributions.
- A current member of the Hall of Fame or member of the State of Florida Board of Directors must endorse all nominations. (As indicated on the Inductee Nomination Form).
Selection Process:
The number of Hall of Fame Inductees shall be held to a total of 5 per annum. Emphasis should be given to athlete candidates first, and then other categories.
A sub-committee established by the Board of Directors shall present recommendations of the selected nominees to the full Board of Directors who, upon approval, will submit to the Voting Committee.
These Guidelines are intended to provide for the majority of the framework and scope of the Hall of Fame. The Board of Directors may provide exception(s), should special circumstances warrant.
