2025 School of Medicine Alumni Awards Nomination Form

The true measure of the UNM School of Medicine's greatness is found in the achievements of its alumni and its impact in New Mexico.


Thank you for participating in the recognition of these invaluable contributions by nominating a colleague, friend, or fellow alumnus for a 2025 UNM School of Medicine Alumni Award.


All nomination statements must be NO MORE 4000 TOTAL CHARACTERS (INCLUDING SPACES), submitted using this form. No additional statements or materials will be considered by the review committee.


Nominations must be received by June 1, 2025.


Nominators, nominees, and recipients alike will be invited to the 2025 Lobo MD Awards Gala, which will be held on Saturday, September 6th at the Albuquerque Museum in celebration of the 2025 recipients.

Distinguished Alumnus Award


Award Description: The Distinguished Alumnus Award recognizes an alumnus who has made significant contributions to society, and whose accomplishments, affiliations and career exemplifies the School of Medicine’s legacy of excellence.


Eligibility: UNM MD Alumni

 

 

 

Leonard M. Napolitano Award


Award Description: Dr. Napolitano served as the third dean from 1972-1994. His contributions are numerous and his value of knowing patients as people led to the development of the School of Medicine’s nationally recognized curriculum. The Leonard M. Napolitano, PhD award honors an alumnus for their generous, enthusiastic, effective, and persistent contributions to the UNM School of Medicine. Acting as a vital link to the community for the greater good of the UNM Health System, the recipient may have distinguished themselves through service that enriches the education and training of our students, offers leadership and support to faculty and administration, or builds strong public and private partnerships.


Award Eligibility:

  • UNM SOM MD or PhD Alumni
  • Current or retired faculty
  • Current house staff
  • UNM residency and fellowship program graduates
 

Early Career Achievement Award


Award Description: The Early Career Achievement Award honors School of Medicine graduates who completed their training within the past 15 years and who have quickly made a mark in the field of medicine through scientific, academic, or humanitarian achievements.


Eligibility:

  • UNM MD Alumni
  • UNM Residency or Fellowship Program Graduates
 

 

MD/PhD Award


Award Description: Recognizes UNM Combined MD/PhD Degree Program Alumni who have made outstanding contributions to their local, regional, or national community through medical practice, teaching, research, or other humanitarian activities.


Eligibility: UNM Combined MD/PhD Program Alumni

 

Outstanding Community Educator Award


Award Description: This award recognizes a volunteer educator for their generous and exemplary commitment to educating UNM School of Medicine students. The recipient should embody the mission of the UNM School of Medicine by providing mentorship and training opportunities with New Mexico’s diverse and underserved populations.



Eligibility:

Community Faculty

UNM School of Medicine educator working outside of the UNM Health Care System

 

 

Visionary Site of the Year Award


Award Description: Visionary Site of the Year, established in 2017, is an award that recognizes a New Mexico health system(s) that embodies the mission of the UNM School of Medicine in building a statewide campus for health education and in their dedication to education, creating a diverse network of health care professionals and providing compassionate care to all New Mexicans.


Selection Guidelines: The Visionary Site of the Year Award is managed by the Community Faculty Advisory Board. Nominees shall be considered based on the above criteria.
