Open Call: Subject Matter Experts to develop content for Fatigue Management Course Bundle

AIHA is seeking OEHS professionals to assist in developing content for a new series of online courses about Cognitive Fatigue Management.

Interested subject matter experts (SMEs) will work with AIHA staff to fill gaps in existing course content through recorded interviews and/or short presentations on key subjects. SMEs must be comfortable with either being recorded through video or audio or being quoted and be legally allowed to have their content attributed to them.

A stipend may be available for completing this work, depending on the level of contribution.

Project Overview

We are currently recruiting volunteers to work with AIHA staff to develop content for three courses based on the AIHA Core Competency for “Fatigue Management”.

Volunteers will select a specific subject related to fatigue management to focus their efforts on. They will be interviewed about the selected area of expertise, which will be recorded in either video, audio, or text format. AIHA staff will edit the content produced and add it to the course content. SMEs may also be asked to provide their professional opinion on other course resources or help produce activities based on the content they generate.

This work will be completed through a combination of virtual meetings (e.g. Teams or Zoom meetings) and email correspondence with the AIHA course development staff.

We are currently seeking SMEs with expert-level knowledge of various aspects of cognitive fatigue management and fatigue management programs including technology, control methods, and creating a culture of fatigue management. A full list of topics is in the application below. Special consideration will be given to any SME who is able and willing to share a case study or example of a successful fatigue management program they were involved in.

The ideal volunteer will be an experienced OEHS professional who is knowledgeable about cognitive fatigue in the workplace and fatigue management programs. The SME must be able to recognize the differences between OEHS Technicians, Professionals, and Practitioners and be able to develop content with a specific audience level in mind.

For your efforts, participants will receive author credit in the course and may be offered a stipend, depending on their contribution.

Time Commitment

While we do not anticipate this project requiring a significant amount of time to complete, it is possible that volunteers may spend up to 10 hours on this project over the span of 1 to 2 months.

This will include:

• An hour-long kick-off meeting (virtual) to outline the flow of the project and inform each SME what their topic will be.

• Hour-long individual meetings to discuss the concepts currently missing from course content and answer any questions about the recording process. These prep meetings may occur several times, if needed.

• Volunteers will be asked to prepare their speaking points or presentation on their own time and come to the recording sessions with all their materials prepared. Preparation may be minimal or more extensive depending on the subject matter.

• Recording sessions for content may last up to 3 hours in length, if needed.

• SMEs will be given the opportunity to review their edited recordings before the course is made public, but this is not a requirement.

• SME volunteers may also be asked to help write practice or reflection questions or other activities related to course content, as needed.

• We will begin this process in early April, starting with initial meetings prep calls.

o Note that the timeline of the course may overlap with AIHA Connect 2025. If this restricts your availability, we ask that you note this in your application.

• It is possible that your support will be required as the course is finalized in June 2024.

• After the course is made available to the public, there is a chance that further correspondence between the AIHA eLearning team and the volunteer SME may take place to answer additional learner questions that may come up.

To volunteer for this project, please fill out and submit the online application below by April 14th, 2025.

Your expertise will be an invaluable asset to the AIHA online education team as we strive to provide the best educational experience and support efforts to safeguard the health and safety of workers across industries. We hope you’ll consider signing up.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss your participation further, please contact Lauren Corlett (lcorlett@aiha.org) or Colleen Manning (cmanning@aiha.org).
