Thank you for your interest in the City of Minneapolis’ Graffiti Paint-Over Program, offered by the Solid Waste & Recycling Division of Public Works. The City of Minneapolis will provide volunteers with paint, to cover graffiti on the yellow traffic signal poles, the brown traffic signal control boxes, the green traffic signal pole bases and red fire hydrants only. Please note and follow the precautions listed below: TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT PROPERTY (Traffic signal poles, bases and control box cabinets) 1. Paint entire surface of the cabinet when covering graffiti. 2. Use a brush or roller to apply. 3. Do not paint the doors or locks shut. 4. Do not mix paint with thinner. 5. Do not change the color of any pole or cabinet. 6. Do not paint over posters, stickers or tape. FIRE HYDRANTS 1. Do not paint over the white caps. 2. Do not paint over the top, white 'bonnet'. 3. Do not use red paint to cover any white portion of the hydrant. (The white caps and bonnets have special significance for maintenance and fire crews). PAINT SUPPLIES Paint will arrive in quart or gallon size cans, using the fewest number of cans possible. For example, if one pint is ordered, one quart size can that is half-full will be received. If 8 pints are ordered, one full gallon size can will be received. Let's work to make this program successful! Please report any problems or concerns to the Clean City Coordinator at 612-673-2789.
