Application for 2026 Distinguished Fellow Status of the American College of Medical Toxicology (DFACMT)
The Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Medical Toxicology (DFACMT) designation honors Fellows who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to the field of medical toxicology and distinguished service to the College. This esteemed status signifies a higher threshold of achievement beyond the criteria for Fellowship.
Applicants must be a current active Full, International, or Emeritus ACMT member in good standing and have held the FACMT designation for at least 10 years.
Candidates for DFACMT must meet 1 of the following criteria:
- Have served as a member of the ACMT Board of Directors for a minimum of 3 years (1 term)
- Lead or co-lead organizer for the ACMT Annual Scientific Meeting or equivalent ACMT course
- Served as Chair or an active member of an ACMT committee or section for at least 3 years, with a demonstrated record of substantial contributions—such as leading a key initiative, driving impactful projects, or significantly advancing the committee’s work or mission.
AND Candidates for DFACMT must meet 4 of the following criteria (Education, Research, Clinical Practice, Public Service and/or Other):
- Education
- Served as a speaker at 3 or more National or International Toxicology Conferences or ACMT Board Review Courses
- Formal teaching of medical toxicology to healthcare professionals for a minimum of 8 years in one of the following roles: fellowship director, assistant fellowship director, residency rotation director, medical student rotation director, and or other major teaching responsibility
- Research
- Editorial board member of JMT for a minimum of 3 years
- Author on at least 10 reports of original research (not counting case reports or textbook chapters)
- Lead author or senior author on at least 5 reports of original research in medical toxicology (not counting case reports or textbook chapters)
- Clinical Practice
- Position of Medical Toxicology Section or Division Chief for at least 6 years
- Leadership role in the hospital including serving on the Pharmaceutical and Therapeutics committee, patient safety committee, IRB, peer review (QI) committee
- Public Service
- Role of Poison Center Medical Director or Assistant Medical Director for at least 8 years
- Government or public committee role addressing medical toxicology for at least 6 years
- Significant volunteerism
- Other
- Completed one term as an officer or board member of another professional organization
- Other activities or high honors that distinguish the physician as preeminent in the field of medical toxicology
Application Process:
The application is initiated by the member and does not require a nomination. Eligible members will be periodically reminded via announcements. Application steps and guidelines are as follows:
- Applications must be completed and submitted through this page. Complete applications must be received by September 1, 2025, to be considered for the 2026 cycle.
- Applications will be reviewed by ACMT staff for completeness and eligibility.
- Letters of recommendation must be signed (hand or digital signature accepted) and emailed to membership@acmt.net.
- Complete applications will be forwarded to the ACMT Membership Committee for evaluation.
- A quorum (majority of all Committee members) must meet to vote. A two-thirds majority of those present is required for recommendation.
- Recommended applications will then be forwarded to the ACMT Board of Directors for final approval.
- Applicants will be notified of their status via email.
Applicants not recommended may submit a written appeal for reconsideration by the ACMT Board. If an applicant is recommended by the Committee but not approved by the Board, they may reapply in the following year.
Announcement and Recognition:
New Distinguished Fellows will be announced and recognized at the ACMT Annual Scientific Meeting. It is expected that you attend the meeting where your new DFACMT status is announced.
