POLICY


  • Only completed coursework with a letter grade of a C or higher posted on a regionally accredited U.S. college or university will be considered to clear a prerequisite or corequisite. IN-PROGRESS coursework is NOT accepted from any other college/university, including DE ANZA College.


  • Only specific College Board AP Exams may be used to clear a prerequisite/corequisite.


  • High school coursework cannot be used to clear a prerequisite/corequisite. (SEE IMPORTANT NOTE BELOW FOR EXCEPTIONS)


  • Foreign coursework cannot be used to clear a prerequisite/corequisite; however, it may be considered by a Department Dean or Chair through the Challenge Process. (PLEASE CONTACT THE SUBJECT DEPARTMENT TO INQUIRE: https://foothill.edu/divisions/)



  • Upper division coursework is not accepted but may be considered by a Department Dean or Chair through the Challenge process. (PLEASE CONTACT THE SUBJECT DEPARTMENT TO INQUIRE: https://foothill.edu/divisions/)


ADVISORY


  • College Board AP Exam scores: It is your responsibility to check with your transfer institution how this might affect your transfer coursework and/or credits.


  • Splitting a series between two institutions or taking a course out-of-sequence may affect that series' transfer eligibility . Please confirm with your transfer institution before submitting a request.


  • Clearing a prerequisite/corequisite does NOT guarantee that you will receive institutional credit at Foothill College for the course you completed at another college/university.

INSTRUCTIONS



Follow the instructions below to complete and submit your prerequisite clearance request.



STEP 1: Select the Foothill College course you are interested in registering for. If your course is listed then one, or more, prerequisite(s) must be cleared by submitting this form. If your course is NOT listed, then there are no prerequisite requirements to clear and you do NOT need to submit this form. If a course is NOT listed but has a prerequisite, then it must be cleared by its overseeing subject department: https://foothill.edu/divisions/. Allied Health program courses, and their prerequisites, are processed by their overseeing subject department: https://foothill.edu/divisions/.



STEP 2: Review the prerequisite requirements for the selected Foothill College course you want to register for and make a note of them. Use our online course catalog to find the course description: https://catalog.foothill.edu/course-search/.



STEP 3: Review your previous academic transcripts to determine the best course(s) OR College Board AP exams that may satisfy the prerequisite(s) required for the Foothill College course you want to register for and make a note of them.



STEP 4: Select your transcript type.



  • FOR OPTION: College Board AP Transcript, select one, or more, AP Exams that satisfy one, or more, of the prerequisites required for the Foothill College course you want to register for.


  • FOR OPTION: U.S. College/University Transcript, enter the best course you have competed that satisfies the prerequisite for the Foothill College course you want to register.



If you only need to clear 1 prerequisite for the Foothill College course you want to register for, then continue to STEP 5. If you need to clear more than 1 prerequisites required for the Foothill College course you want to register for, then repeat STEP 4. The max prerequisites required for any single Foothill College course are 3.



STEP 5: Review the transcript(s) you used to fill out this form to make sure they meet our requirements. Attach your files and submit your form.
